If you have a reason to contact California's Unemployment offices, you probably know this is no simple task.
Fortunately, there are other lesser known, and LESS BUSY phone lines available to anyone that knows them and knows how to use them.

This site will walk you through everything you need to know to get through to EDD today!

Finally found a trick that worked to get through to the California EDD after weeks of trying.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, I got through to EDD using one of the tricks I found online.

Here are the steps I took. I hope they work for you like they did for me:

1. Call EDD on their Vietnamese line at (800) 547-2058...
2. As soon as you hear ANY WORDS spoken (you would normally hear "Welcome to the Employment Development Department...") DIAL "1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 7".
3. Wait for the message to finish in Vietnamese. Next, you will hopefully hear it switch to their "on-hold" music and someone will pick up soon. The person I talked to answered in English and was very helpful in getting me the answers I needed.

Please post if this process worked for you too.

Was this trick effective in getting you through to California EDD?

OMG Thank you so much!!!

This worked for me after weeks of trying and at least 50 calls at different times and different days.

I finally got through on 6/06/12.

I cannot thank you enough, it was a lifesaver! I was only allowed to apply for unemployment by the phone and I don't know what I would have done if this hadn't worked.

HERE'S WHAT WORKS EVERY TIME: hit 5 (as if you're an employer), then hit 1 when prompted, then hit 1 again when prompted, then hit 0 (to speak to a live person) - they will tell your wait time and then a nice person comes on - LIVE!!! This works better than anything out there - and I've tried them all!!!

It worked! Oh, thank you!! I've been emailing them back and forth for 4 weeks, not getting any kind of helpful answers, and unable to get through using the 12117 or 130 tricks, and the Vietnamese line didn't work either. I'm SO grateful this worked!

I tried this several times and it worked each time however the last time the nice lady on the phone indicated that since I went about it this way it alerted the department of homeland security that I needed to verify my identity. She was very nice but very honest about the fact that this is not something I wanted to continue to do. She even called me back to ensure I knew the dates i was supposed to go online to enter my claim.

Just thought I would pass this information on. Good luck to us. :) and thank you for this tip.

This work great! Got through in one minute to a very nice live person. FYI if you are an employee who's hours has been cut back, if you still make over 600 dollars week before taxes you do not qualify for any benefits. But you still can file a claim if you want to.

John
5/31/2013 02:38:24 am

Brilliant! This FINALLY got me through to get my claim filed.

The worst part? There's no way i qualify, i just need to get a denial from California, so that i can qualify for extended benefits from Oregon.

This worked beautifully. A sweet, kind woman answered the phone in less than 60 seconds. She was able to look up my account, answer my questions, and transfer me internally to the wright department. She also told me what to say to the next rep to help move the process along. I had been calling and emailing for almost 2 months! Thank you Anna!

It's 10:10 a.m. here in L.A. County. Just tried this and, after about a minute and a half, I got totally disconnected while on hold. Called right back, just to hear the teleprompt that "due to the high volume of calls, we are unable to process your request at this time--blah blah blah...". Guess if there has to be one in the bunch, it's usually me...

Janeice
11/10/2014 02:39:01 am

With what phone number are you using Anna. I can't get it to work

Bea
11/20/2014 01:35:39 am

I used Anna's trick and it worked! Well, actually, since the EDD's office closes at noon(!), I tried at 11:15am, and it was too late. I got the too-many-people-on-hold-so-goodbye message. I tried this again the next morning at 9am, and it worked!

Specifically, for me, I first hit 5 (got the hit-a-valid-number-or-we'll-hang-up-on-you message), then I hit 1 (for English), then 5, 1, 1, 0. At this point, I was put on hold for only 5 minutes, spoke to a real, live, friendly person who then transferred me, was on hold for about 3 minutes, and then spoke again to a real, live, friendly person. I couldn't believe it!

Thanks for the trick, Anna!!!

UNBELIEVABLE, THANK YOU WHO POST THAT

1. Call EDD on their Vietnamese line at (800) 547-2058.

HELPED ME ALOT! FIRST OF ALL, I CALLED SO MANY TIMES AND MONTHES TO EDD. THERE I PRESSED "ENGLISH" WHICH IS NUMBER 1, THEN NUMBER 6, NUMBER 7 AND NUMBRE 3 AND MY CALLED ENDED AUTOMATICLY. CRAZY. I WAS SO TIRED, NO HOPE THAT SOMEDAY I WILL WILL gO THROUGH. Until I saw on the website this truk viethnam. haha...went through easily..... I didnt understanat anything in thhis language but i pressed those numbres that was wrote down and then i heard music and after a few seconds somebody picked up the phone and said "EDD". I asked is this EDD OFFICE? and she says "how can i help you"...You guys she answered on my three answers ! ( about my weekly claim forms that i didnt get, payments didnt get and claim expiration"...yeeeeeeeeee....thank you ...thank you.....thank you...

THANKS AGAIN....I AM HAPPY

has anyone received notices from edd stating they filled out their claim form wrong, First they told me I didn't sign the form. Then on the next claim stated information missing. Please, I believe it is another stall tactic Did anyone notice when the ebt card had a glitch it their system it was corrected in hours not days or weeks..

The Vietnamese one doesn't work anymore unless you speak Vietnamese. After you get in through the line you get a bunch of options in the language and no matter what you press you can't get through. However, calling as if you are an employer worked! I got the nicest lady Pat and in 5 minutes my problems were taken care of.

Just thought I'd update with my experience. I could not get through by phone or regular means, or by using the employer options. They must be very short-staffed. I tried the Vietnamese line, dialed 12117, and a woman answered in Vietnamese and I said "Hi I'm sorry is there an english line?"

The woman immediately answered in english and helped me with my problem (I won my appeal and my payments were in limbo because I had not applied for a new debit card...I was in limbo there too since I had an expired debit card from when I had UI Benefits in 2008...back when they FIRST started the debit program...before that there was always the torture of waiting for the US Mail)

The woman who answered my call on the Vietnamese line was extremely friendly and helpful and (if you can't tell) I'm immensely grateful to her and this tip, because I might have waited for days in ignorance of what I needed to do to get my benefits rolling in (along with 2 months of back-payments).

I'm almost about to lose my car and my apartment, but this is going to save my butt. I'm happy!

Had to call back today bc they forgot to put an employer on claim, and it took 3-4 tries but got through on 3rd-4th try.

You have to dial them quickly, like you would a telephone number, if you wait between it doesn't work. And you'll hear some Vietnamese recording before a pause and then some hold music.

well i first pressed 12117 and the guy would talk after and eventually the line when dead. but if i pressed 12117 and then pressed 0 each time when the man started talking again, it got me to a rep!

the first 2 or 3 times i got to a rep i asked if they could help me or transfer me to an english rep, they put me on a silent hold for a long time and eventually disconnected me.

but the 3rd or 4th time i got to someone that helped me! she was great and very kind!

Woohoo!! I've been trying for almost a week to get through with no luck. I worked in another state within the last 12 months so I had to actually call in. I called the Vietnamese line 800) 547-2058. At first I dialed 1-2-1-1-7 after first hearing the voice speak but it would disconnect. I then took the suggestion of another commenter that said to dial 1-2-1-1-7 and then hit 0 once the person starts talking and it worked! It took about 10 tries before trying the 0 so keep trying and don't get discouraged. I was connected within 2 mins to a very nice english speaking Vietnamese who took care of my claim:) Everything was done in about 30 mins. I was about to start pulling my hair out so thank you for the tip!!

hi...yesterday i tried this trick almost like 10 times but to no avail...after reading the other comments from everyone here frustrated and yet triumphant in the end...i did not lose hope and tried early this morning. I called in the English no. at 7:30 AM just outtav sheer curiosity...and can u believe it !! they still had that frustrating automated response 'we are currently receiving more calls than we can answer" at 7:30 am ??!!!! So again i tried the Vietnamese no. punching the magic numbers, along with zero.....but the voice kept repeating. i dialed for the 2nd time and this time did not punch in anything....and then Magic ! i heard the ringtone n later a Vietnamese lady answered the phone...and i was ecstatic...she helped me solve my query...my mailing address was incorrect so she corrected it and i would be receiving the important mail...she made my day and this trick of calling the Vietnamese no. rescued me...thank u very much frens.
But no doubt...it is frustrating, humiliating (added to the unemployment) to go through so much hassle just to get 1 small query solved...but again Never Give up !

I never comment on these kinds of things, but this was so frustrating. I literally tried to call for weeks with the same ridiculous message "We currently have to many callers."
This method did not work for me the first 10 times I tried calling, but I figured I'd have more luck with this then with calling the english line. I tried all of the methods in the comments as well the next 10 times I called. Finally I called again and tried the original method, dialing "1-2-1-1-7" as soon as the guy speaks and sure enough he said some words and I heard the hold music.
The lady did answer in vietnamese, I just said.."Uhhh..hello? Hi... I'm calling about my unemployment..This is unemployment right?"
I was scared I might get one of the rude ones, but nope she took care of me. Thanks!

If you WORKED IN MORE THAN ONE STATE - you CAN'T file online. We know this. After 3,000 plus calls (knew the password, ie 1, wait, 3, wait, 227SSN#1, "We can't help you now or ever", hang up, try again [also the Vietnamese hotline, got hung up on every time]), I finally called Oregon (my previous state of employment - I currently do NOT LIVE IN EITHER STATE, can't visit UE office). I had called before, but I had the number wrong (don't ask) and kept getting a busy tone. However, called the local number, got through to a person the first time, called back because I didn't have all my info, and both times spoke with real, live, helpful people who told me I would get more $$ if I filed a combined claim THROUGH OREGON (YOUR OTHER STATE OF EMPLOYMENT). I'm not saying every state is as competent as Oregon, but if you've worked in more than one state in the last 18 or 24 months, don't waste your time with CA.

And if you're calling Oregon - don't use the 866/800 number!!!! Type in your (previous) zip code and call the local number.

I actually got on the line at 4:57 (7:57 pm my current time), got through AFTER 5pm PST, and finished my claim (didn't take too long, but the guy stayed on the line with me AFTER 5:00 pm.

California sucks. I never should have left any other place I was before that.

Got through using this method. Apparently too many people using it, as the person that helped me was incredibly rude and upset that I would inconvenience her day by going through the Vietnamese line. Still got helped though.

If that person's job is to help people with their unemployment claims, then there is no reason to be rude about it, regardless of what language you're speaking. How would this person feel if someone was rude to him or her for speaking Vietnamese?

The "employer" way worked very well after the second time.

But I have another problem,
What I don't understand is that we have to freakin cheat to get a live person on the phone to help us!!!!! Even on the phone we have to come up with tricks, unbelievable. Where has this world come to.

And why do vietnamese and chinese get the special treatment to have their own language reps. I'm from Europe and speak dutch, english, french, german and Italian, none of these languages are represented by the EDD. Why?? because they assume you speak english or exspect that from you which is the way it should be.

Spanish ok, because parts of this country belongend to a spanish speaking country and brought a lot of spanish speaking people with it.
I just don't see why these 2 can have this privilege and others don't.
Not only don't they have to know english they get assistance 50x faster than english speaking people.

Do you guys see my point? Or am I overreacting? If I decide to move to a county that I don't know the language from I make sure I do know it asap. No offense to Asian people but I just don't get it.

Try dialing the English # and memorizing the options you need to get where you want to go. Then dial the Spanish # and punch those options. I did this and got a Spanish speaking man. I told him what I needed in English and he was able to help me in English. Now just waiting on the email from them to see if it worked all the way through. Hey, at least I got a real person and not just continual disconnection.

Used the Vietnamese line got thru after a few calls, the woman could not have been nicer and fixed my issue (which was as usual their mistake). I got a man once before and he helped too. How sick is this state that this is what you have to do to get u/c that you have a legit claim to and it's not even like it's g'ment money (it's paid via employer insurance) they're just the middlemen. The normal line is essentially useless. It's like some Orwellian joke. Hang in there everyone try these methods and good luck.

I tried 2 different forge in language ones a few times and they didn't work, but I did call this number and it says I'm on hold for 15 minutes. I've been trying for over 2 hours using traditional methods.

Even the 1-5-1-1-0 (employer #) said they were too busy to take my call. This number though, I was prompted to put in my social and it now I'm on hold!

I'm nervous what she's going to say but ill post again after im see what happens.

Carrie
9/13/2013 04:43:45 am

Sure enough, I got through. She said they're changing the operating system and that its delaying the payments.

I wasn't paid for the last half of August 2013, she said they received the claim form and the payment would have been issued on the 5th, so to allow 10days from that date, which is the next couple days! She told me that someone was working on getting my payment through.

At least I have a better number to call! Jeez!

Chris
9/12/2013 01:16:19 am

THIS!!! It worked, less than 1 minute. I though I was in the twilight zone this was TOO easy.

So for you who submitted a claim form 9/1/13 and haven't gotten a payment, the lady I spoke to said that they have implemented new changes which are causing delays in the system. She said I will get paid, it is just taking longer than normal. She said to check back daily for the payment. She said they are rolling over to to weekly rather than bi-weekly submissions which is what is causing the delay. She said many people are reporting they didn't get their checks, but she said we will get paid it is just going to be late.

I called the above numbers (213), (619) and neither could help me, they both transferred me to the 1800 number we all hate. I then decided to call the number for hearing impaired, transfer again. Lastly I called 18005473506 which was for some foreign language- pressed 2, then entered my soc and 1 stating that it was a correct soc. Brief moment on hold- I asked the person on the other end if they spoke English and in perfect English, he responded, "I'm sorry you have the wrong number, let me transfer you" and now I sit on hold, yet again.
The above numbers work I'd suppose if I wasn't opening a new claim. Thanks for the suggestions-if you've got any more send them out there.

Sadly the 15110 number isn't working today "due to the high number of calls". They told me last week that they've just put in a new system so that must have really fouled things up. I had to resort to sending one of their patented one way emails that never get answered. And I still don't have my money.

I don't get it! I'm doing exactly what everyone has said about the "12117" trick by calling vietnamese line and it wont work for me. I call and punch it in fast, then all that comes up is vietmese guy talking saying the same thing then it hangs up on me..I even tried htting zeros and nothing?

Michelle, good karma your way!

The 855.222.9028 number worked! Hung up on me at first, but then a 4 minute wait.

My problem is I have not been paid for the last half of August. BUT they said they are switching systems so everyone's payment has been delayed. She forced mine to go through.

Good Luck everyone!

The 855.222.9028 number is NOT a scam, I received my money tonight. I was super concerned because it was a 855 number and it seemed to easy. But try it folks while it lasts!

It answers as an "UI" Number and asks for your Social Security number...then you are placed on hold and the reception asks for your info.

I'm weary because I can only imagine some asshat putting up a fake number to try to phish information from poor folks desperate to get through to EDD...but then again, we all don't have that much to scam off of anyway!!

Good Luck!

The 855.222.9028 number is NOT a scam..I REPEAT IT IS NOT A SCAM. I'm sure it will be non working in 2 weeks once we start flooding this line as well but I called and got to someone in less than 1 minute. Please remember you guys they started a new "system" about 2 weeks ago so of course its a piece of non working crap causing delays to EVERYONE. She tried to pay us but we were told the new system would not let her manually do it. EDD needs to get their ISH together ASAP. BUT AS OF September 16 2013 at 832 am, it worked

THE 855 222 9028 numbers works! press 1 for English and enter your ss# then it will tell you an estimated wait time. I spent 2 hours trying the Cantonese, Vietnamese, 1800-300-5616 and 213-477-1405 line and none of them worked for me ! after 17 mins of waiting I was connected with a representative who was very nice and assisted with all of my questions. There has been a system upgrade so it is causing delays with payments. I am so happy I could SCREAM!!!! Thank you for the tip! It is still kind hearted people in the world :)

Ya they are already denying calls at this number. I'm sure they have an office meeting very recently to address the sudden influx of phone calls. Because I was asked "How did you get this number?" and then "Who gave you this number" and then I was told in no uncertain terms never to call this number again for personal claims and that they were noting my file that I have been told not to call this number. So good luck. I don't know about anyone else but it does seem as though the EDD has now closed all loopholes and work arounds. In fact it seems they are simply no longer taking calls at all. I started calling at 7:58 am this morning and kept trying until 10:00 am. Only occasionally would I get past the recording that immediately says they are receiving more calls than they can handle. And the few times that I did get the "Welcome to the EDD..." and I went through the usual prompts only to be greeted with another "Sorry we are currently receiving more calls than we can handle". So it seems now I have to make a trip to the nearest EDD office which they now call the "Career Transition Center" where they have a hardline that someone who works there will assist me with getting through to a live person. Lame and exhausting. My claim is so screwed up and it's all error on their side. They can't seem to get it right. I have had to call almost every two weeks for months now to point out their errors so I can receive my payments.

I just called that 855 number that was working for people, someone answered after a wait time of about 5 minutes, and asked if I was calling from an EDD office. When I said no, they would not help me because they said that this is a private number and someone "had the nerve" to post it online who wasn't supposed to, and this number never should've been out there and now they're getting tons of calls, and that if I needed to speak with someone who could help me, I needed to call the public (800) number that we've all been calling and can't get through on, and that was all the info they'd give me. She was very nice, not rude at all, but also gave me no information, and that was that. So, looks like we're back to square one. I haven't gotten paid since 8/13/13.

With this line they may ask you "what office are you calling from" that's where you say the city of your local EDD office (mine was East Los Angeles) then they will proceed with dob, address, and phone number.

Cannot get through on 855 number or employer option. Have been calling since 8am. Called the San Bernardino career center and the woman there was just as frustrated (but super sweet) as all of us with unemployment. They give them no info, they don't have reps there, and all they have are a computer and phone to use the same sites and numbers we already have. She said the phones aren't even hardwired to edd.

I called the labor dept who gave me the # for the directors office. The guy on the phone would not help, was EXTREMELY rude (nasty would be a better term) and said their online contact is best way and that it's a 12 day wait time for a response.

I told them if they continue to not help or pay people that lawsuits were going to begin and all he said was "I know".

Here's the directors office #. Maybe we should all start harassing them.

I'd wrote a comment some time in Sept. about my success story and here I am again with another one:) .. it still works; again, I didn't press ANY buttons, was on hold for a little while, the music completely stopped for a few minutes, then a lady answered but this time the lady answered in Vietnamese (as opposed to the 1st time a lady answered in English). She was asking me if I speak Vietnamese and I said no. She was about to transfer me to the dreaded line I can never get through on but I spoke to her very nicely, told her to "please" help me because I have been emailing and calling and nobody answers. Thank God she helped me. She said that she'll do it this time but next time I have to call the other number. From the time I called to the time she got on the phone, was about 9 minutes. I called at 9:30 a.m
I am trying not to complain because God is good but I will just say that EDD needs to get their communication methods up to par; makes no sense that we have to trick EDD into assisting us. The whole thing is ridiculous. Just explaining, not complaining:)
Hope u all get through:) God bless:)

I just tried this two days in a row and it worked both times, you still have to wait to here the " Welcome " intro and not the "Thank you intro" which for me was once in every 10 or so calls, and the first time I tried it once I pressed it 0 it said please wait, then we have too many calls try again, so I did and then i got through. The man on the other side was very nice and helpful-turns out it was a clerical error on their part.

Just called the Vietnamese line like Anna said.

1-2-1-1-7 did not work multiple times for me.
1-2-1-1-0 did not work multiple times for me.
6-3-1-1-0 worked the FIRST time for me (I dialed them in order, as SOON as the guy started talking in Vietnamese, one after the other pretty quickly)....was on hold for about 5 min with elevator music playing, then a guy came on in English (with a very thick Vietnamese accent) and was EXTREMELY helpful. Gave him my social, and he was able to look at my file and give me very specific information that I needed.

Just an FYI, I've been calling since 8:00am on the dot, and just got through at 8:27am by using the 6-3-1-1-0 option.

Another piece of advice. I qualify for the deferred extension program. Got other claim forms in the mail though to file for a lesser award amount. He told me to NOT fill and send those in, as I am eligible for my previous (higher) award amount from last year. He said I should be getting updated forms in the mail by the end of this week. Just for any of you who might be in a similar situation...

I hope someone answers soon . if you press 5 then 1 then 1 then 0 sperately, it will say there are too many callers and your call can not be answered please try again later. so make sure you press 5 1 1 0 so you can at least be on hold for a rep!!!

Just saved edd b of america website on my phone to log in and wala! Easy simple stress free technology comes in handy but can get comfusing just need the right people to show you the way. If there are any lawyers out there who are looking for clients for a class-action lawsuit against the California EDD, please post your info.

We can't seem to get their attention by calling, I'll bet a lawsuit will! I bet it will spur them to do something about addressing the needs of people in a timely manner.

Nope. Didn't work. The worst part is that, on the English line, you have no choice but to wait through the advertisement saying you're a fool to wait when you can just file online, when the whole reason you're calling the number is because the web site told you that you couldn't apply online. What an automated slap in the face, just before the kick in the crotch of being told to call "later," as though you just got them at an unusually bad time.

Hispanic lady (go figure) answered and right away, no greeting, asked for my SS#. Placed me on hold a moment and another nice lady came on and told me why I was ultimately denied. Sadly I didn't have a good experience. A person came on the line speaking English I started to respond in English and he said I was a Liar and that he could not help me. I said I must have been mistransferred to his line if he could get me to the right department and he gave some story about being written up if he transferred me and then I asked for his supervisor he said they didn't take calls from liars. He then went talking to him self going yes lock the account deny all claims.

This morning the Vietnamese # (800-547-2058 then immediately upon answer quickly dialed 12117) worked like a charm! I was on hold for 8 minutes when someone answered in Vietnamese - I simply said "Hello, can you hear me?" I was instantly placed on hold, and within moments a very nice young man answered in English and answered every question I had. Thank you, all, for the hints and clues. Give each number of 12117 when Vietnamese voice starts to give instruction for pressing number for the next selection. Wait just a little bit after music plays. Then an English speaker appears.

For disability, I used 530.741.4151 and shortly got through to a live person that kindly transferred me and low and behold, after another very short wait, a disability rep was on the line! She did inform me two things out of the gate, one, her office number is only supposed to be used when calling from an EDD office, and two, after pulling up my SSN, she informed me that I was calling the wrong office as she was in Marysville,Ca.(?) and I'm in Santa Monica. When I politely asked if she could help me anyway, she said yes, but next time . . . She put me on hold long enough for me to think she hung up, so I hung up. Five minutes later I had in incoming 916 number. Knowing 916 is a Sac area code, I answered. It was the rep calling ME back apologizing for having me on hold for so long! She was very helpful and sympathetic of my concerns. 530.741.4151 Enjoy.

Then I got called on 7/15, my interview day an hour earlier and was told the computer was down and I would be called back later. So far I was never called back and all the other language lines went dead on me several times of calling all morning. Wouldn't let me explain my situation and kept cutting me off. Ebonics in full swing. Why are these people allowed to do anything that involves any importance? They are unprofessional, rude, and unintelligent. She had a Shaquita attitude before I even said a word. Why? Why are these people allowed to work? I asked to speak to someone else and the monkey bitch said "bye" and hung up. I said all of 3 words the whole phone call. She was also making up things to get me to be satisfied and hang up. I've been trying all morning to speak with a 'LIVE' representative but there isn't an option for that. I tried the 671 trick and now i'm in the queue waiting on hold - you have to enter 671 while the automated message is playing and it quicks you out into another system where they ask you to input your SS#, etc. Seriously, the State needs to get their systems in order - this is the most frustrating thing to deal with when you're injured and stressed about not being able to work!

Many years after the original posting but I just want to say that this worked for me. I was so grateful to see this. This didn't work for me unfortunately, I tried every trick suggested on this website without success :-( I also tried contacting EDD through Umployment Online, but I never got a response back to any of my emails in 2 weeks.
Here's what finally did work for me, and *bonus* it was easy and fast! I called my local EDD office at 2:30 pm Friday (took 5 mins, got 2 busy signals, hung up, got a live person on the third try).
I explained my situation, and even though it was after noon call center cutoff hours, they were able to immediately transfer me over to a live representative at the central office who was friendly & resolved the issue for me (wages missing, causing 4/5/20 claim to be denied) all within 15 minutes total.
*** This may be the key, I live in a rural area of California. If you are unable to get a hold of a human at your local EDD office, try calling a rural office instead.
Sincerely hope this helps sometime else, good luck everyone!

[Updated]

This is how I finally got through to a live human after unsuccessfully trying to call and email them for 2 weeks *bonus* it was easy and fast!

I tried every hack & trick posted online without luck, this time I called my local EDD office at 3 pm Friday. It only took 5 mins - 2 busy signals, hung up, got a live person on 3rd try.

I explained my problem and even though it was after noon, when the state call center closes, they were able to immediately transfer me over to a live rep at the state office who was friendly & resolved the issue for me (wages missing, causing my claim to be denied) all within 15 minutes total.

*** TL;DR
I called at an off-peak time AND I live in a low population, rural county in California.
If you're unable to reach a human through the state Unemployment phone numbers, or your local EDD office, try calling a rural office instead.

To find a rural county office, search EDD on Google Maps. It will show a list & map of offices with numbers.

Sincerely hope this helps someone else, good luck everyone!

Hey Everyone! I ceritifed for benefits via the EDD portal and the staus has been "pending" for over a week. I attempted to call the main # (800-300-5616) but of course...was unseccessful :( I also sent an email but haven't received a response. I came across this helpful platform and tried calling a # that was suggested (866-401-2849) I pressed 2 until the message asked me to make a valid selection and then pressed 0...it put me in the hold queue and stated my call would be answered in 3 mins...completely untrue!! After 1 hour and 30 mins of holding, someone was able to access my account and answer some but not all questions. The representative told me that he would put my file on his bosses desk and mark it as "paid" and I would see the update within 24 hours. He said that he didn't have the authority to override the payment status but it would be done via his boss. He was very polite and chatty. We even talked about alI the tricks and numbers I used to reach him!! I just have to have faith and trust that it will be done at this point. I will come back in 24 hours and update you guys on the outcome!!! Wish me luck!! Happy dialing folks!!!

As per Shamara's post on 6/8/20 I called the 8664012849 number and followed through as she suggested, and was on with a helpful live Tier II adjuster within 30 seconds! Be ready with quick to the point information on what the problem is and what needs to be done as they won't waste any time beating around the bush, but if you have information that is precise as to the problem and needed fix, as I did, the adjuster told me exactly what she was placing into gear for the corrections to occur properly, back paid adjustments, $300 LWA additional corrections, inclusion of additional LYFT rideshare income , all now in gear, that I should see these changes in effect within 2 weeks! Cain't believe how this worked as without this I was doomed to never get through, as of lately. Approx 2 weeks ago you could at least be put on hold and wait it out an hour or so to eventually get picked up for certain, but lately the recording just states 'to many calls, cain't take your call at this time' and then disconnects you. Once I found this page and tried it....all problems immediately solved! Best of luck to all.....Try this it works!

Still works as of April 2021! The lady answered in Vietnamese but when I replied in English so did she. Very kind woman. Opened my claim for me in less than 10 minutes. I love you, I love her-- and I thank you both profusely.

So there is a guy charging people $30-80 to use his program that auto redials the Edd office (and other office numbers but this post is specific bro help with EDD) and rit makes it so you don't have to wait through the prompts and press all the button and you just end up giving up. Now that's cool and all, but you would think that a guy who knew how frustrating it was to call 100 times to get through that he made an app to help, you would truly believe that he would offer that helpful service for free instead of making money off of those he knows are already desperate. With that said, it's lucky that im good with computers and apps and what not so I'm going to tell you how to do it for free. First you need to download "Auto Redial" (I know there are a bunch of apps on the play store called that so I will add the link at the bottom-its the one with the purple background). Once downloaded, open the app and the settings/call screen will pop up (screenshot will be attached to this post as well) but it will look something like this⬇️⬇️⬇️ just fill it in with info I provide below

Telephone number: +18339782511,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,1341 (yes this is correct, I will explain below)

Extension number: DO NOT FILL OUT

[START]

Duration of the call (including dialing):IMPORTANT- DO NOT FILL OUT or your call might end automatically even if you get ahold of them

Number of calls:

< 1000 (doesn't really matter just make the number 100 or more)

Interval between calls:

< 3 > sec(s) (also not a big deal just the amount of time from when they hang up and when the app attempts the call again

Compact panel for dialing instead of full screen - I don't use this feature always. It's not necessary but you can check it out if you want

SO TO RECAP:
What we are doing is basically using a program that will make a call to a specific number and if that number ends the ï numbers, waiting for prompted redialing and reaching for your phone. All you have to do is keep you ears open and you can go about your day until you get ahold of a real person. in fact I have been auto redial ing the EDD the whole time I have been writing this post.

Your welcome,
Let me know if this post helped you

Again important to copy exactly as it is written:

Macro number : +18339782511,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,1341

If you are trying to get through in spanish replace the first 1 with a 2 and then add 2-3 more commas before 1341. So I think it would look something like this for Spanish +18339782511,2,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,1341

READ!! ( This worked for me with minimal effort ) May 2021

Call your local emergency job center and ask if they can help. My local job center ( in Central California) used to have EDD claims reps in the office but they left when the pandemic happened (hahaha) but the job center gave me the right number and transferred me to their partners. The job center line was busy for about 30 min before I got through at 2:00 PM (probably after lunch break) and once I got transferred, the partner associate picked up immediately and I had no hold time. It is these partners that can help with EDD claims.

My payments were pending for the past 5 weeks. I certified for benefits each week with the hopes that it would resolve itself and assuming that I did not have to reapply for a new claim. Right when I explained my payments pending situation, the woman helping me said it will get fixed in minutes and she was not kidding. She typed away and fixed up my account, explained that I had a "Stop Payment Hold" on my account (not due to mistake during certification) and that within 24 hours my EDD UI account should update and be working normally again.

THIS IS A GLIMMER OF HOPE AND A DIRECTION TO TAKE for anyone out there still struggling to get their payments approved, especially in California.

While there seem to be bugs in the system and somewhat shady stuff happening at EDD on the upper levels of management, the normal people working there are trying hard to help folk like you and me out and I am grateful that it got fixed so quickly... the people helping were happy to help. Good luck everyone!

Calling (800) 547-2058 and pressing 12117 does work as of July 30, 2021. I heard the music and was helped by a very nice Vietnamese lady.

dial (800) 547-2058 as soon as you hear the recording, press 12117 it will then immediately take you to the hold music. I am currently there as I am typing this. The number sequence definitely works as of 8/2/21 @ 1:27 pm

As of 8/23/21 did not work for me. I pressed 12117 as soon as I heard the recorded Vietnamese voice and the recording just continued in Vietnamese and then when recording was completed it beeped three or four times and automatically hung up the call

I just got though on the Vietnamese line. (8/30/21) I just pressed the same numbers that it has been telling me to press when I try to get through on the English speaking line. Each time the recording started to speak I pressed the next number. Then after pressing the last number the hold music started playing and I had to wait close to 40 minutes but eventually a very nice man picked up and said hello in English and he was very helpful

[ AS OF 9/9/2021 THIS STILL WORKS. ] I just tried the 12117 Vietnamese option method and got through after about 15 minutes. I had to call back 2 or 3 times until i finally got the music and then waited like 15 minutes until a nice man answered and helped clarify my claim status for me. Make sure you listen all the way through after pushing the numbers, if it hangs up, just call back and try again.

worked for me. I selected options 1 - 1; which then placed me on hold for 5-10 minutes. I tired the english line 5-6 times each day last week and was promptly hung up on by the automated system saying " try back at another time"

As of Jan 2023, the 1-800 then choose "employer" route still works!!! They have changed options for "employer", it's no longer 5 anymore. Just listen to your options and choose "employer", then you'll be connected a human. For me it was about 15min wait.

Thank you all for posting your experience and the unemployment sucks a little less!!

There's a free tool on eddcaller.com and builds a contact to add to your phone that'll add pausing between digits.

Finding all of these tips was a life saver for me!! I needed to talk to someone ASAP because I couldn't log into my UI Online to certify for benefits and then when I tried to call to certify I kept getting disconnected over and over again. I was worried if I didn't get ahold of someone asap that I would not be able to certify in time and wouldn't be able to receive my benefits.

The advice that worked for me to get ahold of a live agent :
I called the 866-333-4606 phone number, I clicked the employer option which I think was “2” then clicked “4” then I didn't click anything else when prompted I just waited it out for a minute until I got put in the queue and heard music playing. I only had to wait 20 minutes to talk to someone around 3pm on a Friday!!

This page seems to offer tips and tricks for reaching California's Employment Development Department (EDD) more effectively. Given the common frustrations with long wait times and processing delays, this could be a valuable resource for individuals struggling to contact EDD or receive their benefits. If it includes specific call times, alternative contact methods, or insider strategies, it would be even more useful. A great guide for navigating California’s unemployment system efficiently!
