I recently experienced an EDD nightmare regarding thier 800 numbers...they expect you to get back to them through numbers that are never going to go through...so i decided to call backthe (213) number they initially called me from...of course the message says it isnt staffed at that number...however; all EDD numbers from 213...start 477-140*.....so i dialed those numbers then added 1 and so on until i got to 5....wouldnt you know...i got the operator for EDD...and i was connected to the rude person who felt she had life life in her hands and almost didnt assist me until i put her in her place ( I killed her with kindness) long story short i got what i needed...so here is the number they wont give out....until the operator cant handle the calls...im sure it will change soon....
....so good luck and here it is....213-477-1405.

Happy to be the 1st commenter and thanks out smart 'em - you the man! The old "go to" for me was the vietnamese trick - which worked about 60% of the time. Not at all today after about 6 tries. Tried some of the other tricks - garbage today. Anyway, with your main line trick, I had to hold for awhile, but the rep who answered was actually my interviewer 10 days earlier - extreme coincidence, considering she never gave me her #! She stated the she had been out for several days, hence the delay, and that she would call me back today, and promptly did so 30 mins later - that my claim was approved and I would be receiving my debit card within 3-5 days. I will never know if my direct conversation with her increased the speed of the process, but who cares. Getting my money soon and will not be on the street!

I tried the method above and has no luck getting to a operator. Tried the Vietnamese line and got thru 1st time . Now they will most likely want to transfer you to the English speaking line but I was very polite and they assisted me. Hope this helps anyone who has wasted hours on the EDD hot line line I have .

Tried the out smart 'em trick and got through and they told me they do not file new claims in that office! Tried vietnamese didn't get through either. Guess I will go to the Sacramento office and file in person unless someone has a better idea. You see I live in Nevada and they won't let me file an online claim because i filed in Nevada in the last 18 months. So I answered the question wrong and was able to fill out a claim form and got a confirmation # but don,t know whqt will happen when they figure out I did collect Nevada unemployment. what do I have to do hire an agent?

THANK YOU everyone for posting this info. The 213-477-1405# worked today (11/22/13)...I got through after maybe 10-15 "0's" on my first call (the lady was slightly rude and told me my issue was with BofA). I literally didn't want to let her off the phone since it was like striking gold to actually speak to a live person, but she convinced me she could NOT help. I called BofA and they (of course) told me it was EDD's issue and BofA was correct. Now I had to call EDD again!!! But after maybe 10min of dialing "0's" again on the 213-477-1405#, I got through...I really couldn't believe it, this number is a savior! So get this, I got the same women who was slightly rude the first time. However, she transferred me to another person (Lance) who was polite and helpful. He understood my issue and after a few min. made the updates to the BofA side of things within the database and thanked me for my time.

I was not able to get through on #213-477-1405 today. The signal was busy after the first time I pressed '0'. Last week I tried the Vietnamese number. I was able to get through to an operator. She said she would fix my issue. But I have NOT received my benefits yet after a week!

My compensation amount was based on a job earlier in the year of 2013. My last job in 2013 paid much more, but I received money based on the earlier job which was only about a third of what I should get. How can I get this adjusted?

It does not work if you have never filed for unemployment, as the operator asks for your social, and it doesn't bring anything up. And before you can squeeze in that the website reads "phone call required" when applying, they patch you through the dreaded 800 # that gets you nowhere. (at least for my situation) I will continue to try all the other tricks laid out on this site : ) Wish me luck!! (its Friday and almost noon, and I was laid off Tuesday....day care paid in full for the entire summer, so as soon as I can open a claim, I can be free to set up interview!

This site blew my mind when I simply called the phone # listed as (213)477-1405 on your homepage under someone's comment. I thought what the heck, I'll cross my fingers and try it, and each time I've used it, I've gotten through, you just continue pressing zero to continue to wait while it rings, and it takes no more than 10 minutes to reach someone (vs. NEVER reaching someone- sooooo frustrating!!!!- it's been making me nuts). This method works. I highly recommend calling the (213) number for English speakers. Thank you sooo much!!! You saved me a heck of a lot of frustration. :) Thank you thank you!

This worked after a long time of pressing 0. However I finally got through to somebody who told me my claim was actually being processed in san bernardino, so I looked them up in the yellow pages and called that office. Took a couple tries as the first had me leave a voicemail. Second time a woman walked me through everything and got my claims up to date! So amazing!

Mind blown! Got through after hitting "0" a few times to "continue waiting" apparently I missed a check box, I really didn't want to go through the hassle of re-sending a duplicate form and then them saying the forms didn't match (happened to me once before). Total call took about 5 minutes. Lady was very helpful and fixed everything up for me so I wouldn't have to resend the form.

Did you continue to press "0" to continue waiting? I'm about to try tomorrow, just wanting to know why you couldn't get through. Tried the (213) number 5 minutes ago. WORKED. Pressed 0 to continue waiting. Waited literally ABOUT 2 minutes, someone came on, asked for my social. I gave it. Transferred me to another person, asked for social and verification questions. Name, birth, address. Discussed my case with this person. Everything is now cleared up, apparently they sent me a claim form I never filled out. Waiting for interviewer to call and send me new claim form(s). Good thing, gonna receive all back pay. (213) 477-1405 WORKED!

It took a phone call that went through after pressing about 3 0's. The lady who answered transferred me to a number that rang for a while then just gave a busy signal. I called back again and pressed about 20 0's before getting through. This time she transferred me to a number that rang for a while then was answered. Total time...about 45min. I got my answers and my benefits. Thanks for the tip!!

Yes! Got thru after a few calls; not long at all. One tip; these people on these lines are no nonsense. Not looking for your life story. "I have a question; here's my social, etc." She quickly transferred me to a NorCal number (even though I'm SoCal my claim has always been thru NorCal). NorCal guy placed me on hold to check my records. Then he transfered me to a manager. Got manager voice mail, left message. This was just before noon. At 4:30, the manager called me back. Problem solved. Very polite, but again very no nonsense. Answer their questions, but don't try to have a conversations. Many thanks to this website!

This # really works on first try. # is (213-477-1405). If not try (477-1404) if still nuttn try (477-1403) then (1402) and so on.

Press 1 to continue in English, 3 to file or reopen a claim, 5 to open an existing claim, 7 to reopen an existing UI Claim. It'll ask you for your social and it'll say your call is being transferred. That's as far as I could get before I got this automated response. "Due to the # of callers already waiting to speak to a representative, we are unable to assist you at this time. Please try again later." And then it hangs up on you.......I'll try again tomorrow at 8am and then after 10am because I've called between 9 and 10 and still haven't gotten through.

The 213 number works! They transfer you a couple of times but you get a live person. My husband hadn't received money since June but kept getting claim forms to send in. He was told that his claim was in a "lag test" whatever that means... but the guy on the phone told him he would release his money. At first the automated message said it was busy, but I chose the option to wait and it rang and I got a live person! They transferred me about 3 times and I got to a person that was able to help me. I called about a check I was supposed to receive but hadn't... The guy said they were going to send me another claim form because of a little mistake I made... He fixed it and now my funds will be available within 48 hours. I just got hired for a job and I need this money desperately as I transition into my new job and won't get paid for two weeks. I thought she hung up but then I heard the toll-free recording, she transferred me to the 800 number, oh joy.

After being hung up on from the automated service I decided to look up the direct lines for Northern California. I'm from San Jose and someone picked up immediately when I called this number just 3 minutes ago. (415) 351-7200. I'm assuming if you're not in this area you might get the same response everyone else is getting that they can't transfer you to your appropriate area anymore. Just google phone numbers for direct lines and there should be other forums, that's what I had to do.

I then called the SF office and got through right away and the gentleman was able to look up my claim and answer all of my questions. So glad that all of you have taken the time to post the local office numbers, it seems this is the only to successfully get through to a live person. :)

I tried (415) 351-7200, and it worked! It took about 45 minutes total, but about 30 minutes into the pressing 0, someone answered and eventually was able to resolve my issue. Thank you so much for sharing! I had already spent several hours trying the 800 number, and the (213)...which both didn't work. Thanks again! :)

It took me forever to get through - I FINALLY did on this number - (213) 477-1405, after pressing "0" over and over, about 50 times at least. The woman who answered was unhelpful. She would give me no info and said I needed to get through on the San Bernadino line, and wouldn't transfer me or give me an alternative number, even though I told her I have been trying all day to get through. CA EDD is the worst.

Does anyone know how to figure out what office your claim it out of. I live in riverside . Also, does anyone have any information on if we are still qualify for a separate fed-Ed extention. My tier 4 extention just ended :)

From what I understand, the Tier 4s are over depending upon when it was filed. If you're in Riverside then you're out of the Riverside County office. I would call that number back, and ask for the direct number for the Riverside office.
This DID work phenomenally. I used this number the same day it was posted. Everyone that helped me was fantastic, I've had to use the number quite a few times lately. I used to just be sit on hold, press zero a few times, talk to the operator and then be transferred to the office your claim is located. From what I gather this office handles San Diego based claims? Unsure on that. Also, my calls after 12pm were answered. Wait time:3-15mins (don't forget to press zero!!!)

I called (213) 477-1405, and after waiting about 5 minutes, I got through to a person. They did transfer me to someone in accounting who was incredibly polite and helped me (I forgot to answer a question on my Continuing Claim Form), and even told me what question I forgot to answer. Both people who I talked to were polite and I killed them with kindness. This number is THE number.

Not the case - the operator picked ip at this number and recognized the problem and fixed it. Thank you so much for this!

After pressing zero 15 times i was put on hold. Then a lady took my social and asked if i had a claim. Told her i needed to file one because the website wouldnt allow me to do it and the normal number is overloaded. She asked where i got this number then transfered me to the dreaded machine. Im thinking about lying on an internet claim so i can at least file, then come back to this line and fix it. Insurance fraud here i come

Tried the 213 number but it kept hanging up on me after pressing 0 a few times. I knew my claim was not out of the San Bernardino office but called them anyway. I was put on hold right away -- waited about 5 minutes and was told my claim was not with that office BUT I got transferred to the correct office where I was put on hold for an additional 3 minutes.

Okay this is what I did to get through to EDD. I called 213.477.1405 and told the operator that I recieved a 3 day pay or quit notice from my landlord and that I had not been payed bt EDD in 4 weeks. The operator said sorry you have to call the regular EDD line as this is for interviews. I hung up and called 213.477.1405 and got a different person and told them that I received a 3 day pay or quit notice from my landlord and that I had not been payed by EDD in 4 weeks and she asked my my SS # and then transferred me to someone who transfered me to someone immediately released the funds electronically. She said I was caught in the labor day computer upgrade error. All she had to do was press a few buttons and I was paid. What would have happened if I had not called 213.477.1405? I DOUBT I WOULD HAVE BEEN PAID anytime soon and I be on the streets. Despite what EDD is saying about the error, I think they are lying. IF YOU DO NOT CALL THEM in my opinion about the labor day computer glitch error you certification for the period ending 8/31/2013 is not likley going to get paid before you need the funds in a major way. Call the 213.477.1405 and if the person that answers won't help you hang up and call right back! Be persistent. If you like me, being persistent is the difference between keeping my apartment or being on the street. OH ALSO BY THE WAY 213.477.1405 number worked for me after Noon well after the other EDD number does not work. Good luck. God bless you. Be persistent. I also had called my Assembly man in the morning and they said they were going to contact EDD for me, but I did not wait to see if that would have resolved things. Somehow i bet that would have taken days too. But call the 213.477.1405 and your state assebly mans office and do what ever you have to do. You paid into the EDD system and you deserve help when you need it. Godbless you all I am praying for you and rooting for you!

The 213.477.1405 phone number works!! I just called it and even though it took 5 - 6 tries I eventually got through. I called around 12:30pm and when they answered I just explained that had not been payed for any claims since the one submitted during the Labor day weekend and they took it from there. I guess it was some kind of system error from that weekend.

Got through to a live person who would only transfer me to the usual 800 number. No help at all from this number. Additionally my file has been flagged that I am only to use the 800 number. I have determined that as of today there is absolutely no way to get through to the EDD by phone at least from the Los Angeles area. I will have to go in person to one of their physical locations. The delay in payments is now over 8 weeks behind and all due to EDD errors. Now I know why some people hate the government. This is ridiculous.

I called the (213) 477-1405 number today nonstop from 9:14am to 9:54am. Got the busy signal several times after pressing 0, but just kept redialing (22 calls in total compared the the 98 calls I made to the 800 number). Finally knew I got through when I heard waiting music instead of the constant ringing. The operator who answered transferred me the the lady who had conducted my interview about two weeks ago. Success in getting through to a live representative, but dismal failure in actually getting anything resolved. Supposedly, due to the new processing system put into effect on September 3rd, many people's claim data is being rejected in some kind of error. IT has not yet resolved the issue. At least now I have some "answers."

I just used the 213-477-1405 (Los Angeles #) and was finally successful on my 7th call. On the 1st 6 attempts, I kept getting disconnected after hitting 0 to continue to hold, so I kept calling back. On the 7th and final call I had to hit 0 to continue holding approximately 30 times. I was also transferred 2 times once I got a live person. The whole process with the repeated calls and finally speaking with someone took about 40 min. That is a long time, but, considerably better than the 800-300-5616 ph# listed on the crazy contradictory letter I received from EDD. When I called that ph#, I never even got past the message telling there were too many callers waiting and to call back later. Thank you for all the suggestions/comments and I wish all of you the best in contacting EDD and ultimately finding your perfect job!

If you're trying to open or re-open a claim (and have worked out of state), these numbers will not help you unfortunately. They'll give you the "we don't do that in this office" runaround. Since I worked out of state two weeks ago I can't file online, and in the words of one of the workers, I'm "SOL".

Got thru, finally on the 213 number. Tried at 8 am, did not get thru until after 10 am. Got two women reps, took my SS# and transferred into a black hole and had to re dial, a few times. Got thru in 5 minutes or so. Issue with address of last employer and my current address. All set. Been a this for almost 2 weeks. I'll tell you what Iearned. The (EDD) system is a mess, and it is very easy to complain and blame them. But we all know it fix it, or get us the results we want (which is getting the money). Envision the end result of having your money, focus on the end result, and that it can be easy. We are responsible and create all things in our lives, all things.

Thank goodness for this site and everyone's comments....I got through!! : ) I first called the LA# 213-477-1405 (after 1:00pm) since I am in Lancaster, I had to hit "0" at least 5xs, someone did answer I was brief and said I received a letter to call about 2 rejected claim forms. She took my SS and said I was based out of the SD office and transferred me. I hit "0" at least another 15xs and I did get someone who helped me get paid! If you work part time the computer doesn't always read the entries well. But now thankfully I have the direct number to the SD office 619-525-4995 in case it happens again.

213 477-1405; she took my SS#; then would not listen, got irate that I called that number and transferred me to the 800#. Then I tried 714 783-1502 BEGGED, PLEADED, so sorry to bother you but can you PLEASE help be. I've sold my jewelry and TV's to pay rent and am going to be homeless if I don't get paid. She told me I have to call, email, go to my local office (which I have) or send a letter by mail. I pleaded some more and apologized saying I know they work really hard with limited resources but if I lose my apartment, there is no hope of finding a job ~ it's game over for me. She took pity on me and said the claim forms I hadn't received since 9/1 would be mailed out. The indignity of it all. Thank you for this website!!

Trick is to get your direct line #'s to your assigned office, then go through the 0's of waiting....if it's your assigned office, likelihood of being helped is greatly increased. My home claim office assistant, Mila, very helpful, in the San Diego office. Live update, informative, knew the lingo of EDD world....most important she was breathing.

This didn't work for me. After a few days of trying I gave up. Printed the de 1101 forms and faxed them. While waiting for a response I've spent a couple hours in the morning for the last week trying a new trick. It worked today. I GOT THROUGH. The faxed forms hadn't even been filed into the system after a week! Here's what worked for me: call 1 800 300 5616. If the message starts with "thank you for calling blah blah blah" hang up. Call back until you get the message starting with "welcome". Press 1 immediately and when the guy starts talking again press 671 fast. It will ask you to put in your ss#. After this you will either be asked to call back due to high call volume (which is what happened to me the first 30 times) or they will give you a wait time. Today I called 10 times and finally got through. Only waited 3 mins and spoke with a friendly lady who sent me over to "special claims" where a mean sounding lady answered in a foreign language. I figured I was forwarded to the Vietnamese line and quickly explained I had been transferred to her. She didn't sound happy but filed my claim. Said I should receive info in the mail within 10 days! Success! Manifest what you want out of your universe! Watch the secret.

714 number worked. I got disconnected after the 1st operator transferred me but the 2nd time I got transferred to a lady who actually helped me. She said the new system for some reason didn't release the funds so she will print out the form and turn it in to a manager so the funds can be released. I tried getting her direct number but she said she can't give it out because they don't handle adjustments and my call wasn't supposed to go to her. We'll see if the funds actually get released.

Wow, the 213 number totally worked! It took several tries but I got through to a live person who was going to transfer me to the 800 number when I requested pity because I wasn't able to get through though I had tried for two weeks every day. I was transferred to another operator who then transferred me to a wonderful real live woman who took my SS number and got my claim information completely straightened out in 10 minutes and informed me that my missing claims would be available on my debit card within 24 to 48 hours. Yay!! Good luck all, but know that there are actually sweet helpful operators out there who can help. Don't give up!

I tried all the numbers given by everyone, the 1-213 477 1405 might work but I myself did not get through, I also tried the 714-783-1502 and a man recording came on every time saying there is no staff to talk to at that number, then I tried 415-351-7220 and finally I actually got to hear a live person. At this moment I am on hold but atleast I am waiting to talk to a person. Thanks to everyone who took the time to care about sharing this information,I was at a loss not able to get this going,I needed to talk to a live operator so so badly to continue my claim process. Wish me luck that this goes all the way through to where I need it to. Good luck everyone out there.

out smart em's Trick (Direct Line) worked. I called 213-477-1405 and kept pressing 0 to continue. After approx 30 min I got a voice operator who took my SSN, stated that I needed Pacific Center (I knew that..I just could never find the number) and transferred me. I got another voice who took my SSN and transferred me to a very nice man who took my SSN, Name and stated that I could 1) call back after 1pm PDT or 2) Give him my information and expect to receive a call back in 48 hours. When asked for the number to call back after 1pm PDT he gave me 714 782 1385 (Pacific Center). I plan on doing that shortly. Good luck to all of you! :)

Thank you so much for giving me these numbers, here is my experience. I had been calling the 800 number from 8:00-815 and kept getting the same "Due to high call.." message and the line would disconnect me. I found this page and decided to try the 213 number, the first time I called I pressed 0 a few times and got 2 operators who asked for my SSN - after that I kept getting disconnected when I would press 0.

After reading here, I called EDD in SF 415--351-7200. After about 8 minutes of hold music, a nice lady picked up, asked for my SSN and then told me my claim office was the Orange County office - 714 782 1385. She also transferred me. I'm currently in the "our operators are currently busy" loop and pressing 0 every 45 seconds. I'll update when/if I get through.

Out Smart Em's Trick (Direct Line) worked..all the way through. I have been 'Adjusted' by a lovely lady at Pacific Center. I do feel for the individual employees there and everywhere throughout the system. I myself am unemployed because my company installed a interfacing system before it was tested and caused 'Untold' problems. 'Telling' got me fired. Thank gawd it wasn't Kerr-McGee and I'm not Karen Silkwood.

For the most part these people are so rude. What goes around comes around so they should really think about that while assisting people. No matter what number I have called just plain ole' RUDE. Got through on the 714 # but was never able to fully ask a question cause the rep kept cutting me off in mid sentence and threatened to suspend my claim. Told her not to suspend my claim and I would call the 800 number.

i believe in the "pay it forward" ideal. I've came across this blog due to the frustration on contacting the EDD via the 800#. its best to get through to an edd person via the county where your documents are porcessed. i.e if your continued claim form was from San Bernardino ca., best to call their number. mines was actually from there. Thank you sooo much! I've been calling EDD's 800 number for a week now with the same message over and over. It was an emergency since I didn't receive my claim after filing 2 claims. I called this number and the whole process took me 45 min but so worth it. I called the number and pressed 0 until I got a hold of someone. She told me it was bc I checked a wrong box that led to having my claims on hold and to have to wait a week for edd to have a line interview with me. I told her I had made the mistake and she kindly transferred me to someone who could make the correction. I waited for a bit but got through and the corrections were made and my claims are on unhold and back to normal! Thank you so much! This was super helpful! (213) 477-1405

FYI - it's Jan 15 2014 and the above number(s) still work. Highest success rate are the (213) numbers. You should expect to wait AT LEAST 1 HOUR and be disconnected after pushing 0 about 10 times. Simply redial and keep on hitting 0.... you will get through eventually. Also if you are re-applying for EDD you will need to wait about 3 weeks TOTAL to get back into the program.

Called phone number, listened to Vietnamese message and at end of message I pressed 1. listened to next message end and I pressed 2 next message ended I pressed 1 next message ended I pressed 1 then music began playing and I waited about 6 minutes until a live person answered in Vietnamese, I said hello in English they responded in English and spoke to me in English and helped me. Note: an earlier post said press 1-2-1-1-7. Pressing 7 will disconnect you. I was disconnected three times after pressing 7. My fourth attempt I only used 1-2-1-1 and I got thru.

Thank you soo much for posting the 213 # ! I had been trying to contact EDD for weeks, so frustrating! I called the # kept dialing 0 for 20mins, I was so excited to hear a real person. Unfortunately this was not the office that was handling my claim, but she was nice enough to transfer me to the correct office. Once again I had to keep pressing 0 for another 20mins. Until a man picked up. I told him I was confused by the contradicting paperwork that I had recieved * one letter saying that I was not eligible for benefits because I did not verify my identity (which I had sent them a copy of everything they requested drivers lic., a letter from social security, ect.) *another Letter with the start date of my claim & my weekly benefit amount. He was just as confused as I was, so he put me on hold to wait to talk to an adjuster. So, again waiting, this time over 30mins. But finally the adjuster got on the line. Thankfully this woman "Brandi" was very nice as she listened to me. She put me on hold to research my claim. When she came back the first words she said were " I need to apologize there was a mix up on your claim, someone dropped the ball when processing your identity. I am authorizing the release of benefits right now & will sending you claim forms so you can get start geting paid." Wow I just got an apology from EDD & they are actually taking responsibility & not trying to blame me. Yes I'm iritated that this even happened but I am just happy to get it fixed & the apology does help too. Thank you again for posting the # it saved me.

This took 10 minutes start to finish, when I spent almost 20 on the automated system because it said my ssn and pay didn't match!!! Life saver!!!

Ty Ty Ty. This was a life saver. Called 213 # & hit 0 13 times to continue holding but I got a live person. Will be saving this # in case off future issues.

I would just like to add my thanks. I used the 213 number and it did take pressing 0 around 15x, but ultimately I did get a live person to help me. It took some transferring between a few different people, but they were all very helpful and I believe that my issue has now been resolved.

This trick still works. I was hesitant to believe it would, but it did! Saved me a trip to EED. I did have to wait about 10 minutes. Keep pressing "0" when asked if you would like to hold for an agent. When an EDD rep. did come on the line she took my SS# and then told me my claim was at another office. But she did answer my questions and then connected me to another LIVE EDD person at the office where my claim is. Thank you for this TIP!

I called the number and it worked! THANK YOU!!! But the operator was being really rude. I get that they probably get annoyed with all the phone calls but still they should keep it professional! I was able to speak to a real life person but he was no help unfortunately.

Just an update- the 213 is the number for the LA office. They cannot help with reopening claims. They just refer you to the main 800 line. FYI

January 24, 2017 -- The number still works. I wasn't trying to file or reopen a claim, but I was having trouble and needed customer service. Got it. It went right through after dialing the number and I only needed to hit "0" only once.

Thanks you for the 213 number and fyi, it actually worked! I called them regarding an extension for my benefits which I only have 3 more payments left. The lady informed me their are no extentions at the moment and I won't be able to reapply until September 2017. I can only hope that the 2 jobs I applied for contact me and hire me before my unemployment money runs out!

After trying to Edd 25x I figure I give this a try. I filled out a continued benefits and still have not received my money. I called this number and after pressing the 0 5x I got through to someone but she transferred me to the regular queue and I’m back to square one. I’m I doing something wrong??

January 2019 - The 213 number trick still works in LA. Had to press 0 a lot and wait on hold for about 30 minutes total, but the operator listened to my issue then transferred me to an adjuster who helped me. Thank you!

As of September 2019, 213 number no longer works it says it’s out of service. I tried 6-7-1 and got through, I was on hold for 8 minutes!!

This didn't work for me unfortunately, I tried every trick suggested on this website without success :-( I also tried contacting EDD through Umployment Online, but I never got a response back to any of my emails in 2 weeks.
