Allisa's Trick To Get a Live Person at EDD CA for Unemployment Benefits

4/16/2013

Here's a trick has proven to be yet another effective way to get through to California's Employment Development Department (EDD CA)! Though it seems most visitors have already found great success with the tricks listed previously, listing another never hurt anyone.
This trick was provided by Allisa and has had several success stories. As a result, it has earned a spot here. Her comment is quoted below.

Allisa's Trick:

Omg the best trick ever is to call the 1800# after pressing one when the guy says "welcome" listen to the long dreadful message an press 6-7-1 fast and then you'll be asked for your ss# and be put on hold for the next person! I'm finally on hold after using all the other "tricks" that just don't work!!!

This totally worked! I have tried calling about 10 times today and I have been kicked off because too many people were waiting. As soon as I tried this it told me my estimated wait time was 2 minutes! Win! Thank you for posting this!

I recently experienced an EDD nightmare regarding thier 800 numbers...they expect you to get back to them through numbers that are never going to go through...so i decided to call backthe (213) number they initially called me from...of course the message says it isnt staffed at that number...however; all EDD numbers from 213...start 477-140*.....so i dialed those numbers then added 1 and so on until i got to 5....wouldnt you know...i got the operator for EDD...and i was connected to the rude person who felt she had life life in her hands and almost didnt assist me until i put her in her place ( I killed her with kindness) long story short i got what i needed...so here is the number they wont give out....until the operator cant handle the calls...im sure it will change soon....so good luck and here it is....213-477-1405.

This ABSOLUTELY worked! I just got off the phone with EDD. Took no time at all. I used 213-477-1405. Was on hold for a few moments and then was connected to an operator.

August 15th WORKED!! I reached a location that didn't actually handle my claim, however, the woman was extremely helpful. She told me exactly what I had to do to continue my payments and even gave me the number for my office! I'm now trying to get through to them but at least it's not saying "due to the high number of calls, you're screwed!"

213# worked perfect thanks!!!!!!!

I call the 1800-300-5616 # but the bot doesn't say welcome and when I wait for him to finish speaking but before it disconnects I dial 671 and it hangs up after anyway....so I call the 213# listed above and it says thank you for calling the Employment Development Dept....our operators are currently busy....Press 0 to continue waiting, or call back later (and then repeats in Spanish)...But if I press 0 it gives me the fast busy signal and I have to hang up....if I don't press anything it keeps repeating the same message over and over and over and over. Sometimes pressing 0 will get the phone to ring for a little bit and then I get the same message again, but I've only successfully been able to press 0 three times before getting the fast busy signal....sometimes even the first time I press 0 it does it. So far I've been listening to this message for over 4 minutes and haven't gotten through to anyone.

9/11/2013 04:41:11 am

thanks!

just tried this 213.477.1405 and it worked -- had to call once, and hit 0 to stay on hold about 6 times but eventually got an operator who transferred me to someone who was able to assist with my claim within 2 minutes.

I was informed that there has been a delay in everyone's claim for the past two weeks because EDD has switched over to a new system that distributes claim forms. If you haven't received yours for the past two weeks, they mailed it yesterday, 9/10/13 and you should be receiving it soon.

PWM
9/12/2013 07:58:25 am

Reply is directed to Sar -- you have to make sure the 'bot' says Welcome, push 1 for English and after the long dissertation, then push 671 quickly and it asks for your SS# and pin, tells you how long wait time is and voila... you're in. If bot doesn't say welcome, no matter what you push it will disconnect. I used it yesterday and today. The only harder part is getting an EDD employee to actually helping release your payment instead of just logging the call.

This worked great for me- thank you! It took me about 20 minutes to get through. You just have to keep pressing 0. Sometimes you will get a busy signal. Just keep calling back- you will eventually get through.

Seems to still work. I had to press 0 about 5 times, while waiting for a live person, but one came on. She didn't know how I got the number, but wasn't overly concerned. She transferred me to the person with whom I needed to speak, and achieved in minutes, what I had been striving to accomplish for weeks.
Thanks so much!

OMG! I love some of these comments. It's amazing how frustrating trying to contact these government agencies can be. I am beyond that right now. Ha! So I just called the 213-477-1405 after pressing "0" ten times but I finally got through. Very thankful to finally talk to a person. However, I did not experience a rude person I experienced a yes, yes, yes person. So I am not completely confident that she helped me with my need. It seemed as though she was just trying to get me off the phone. Basically at the end of the conversation it was well.. I guess I will just have to fill this out the best I can and see how it goes. ARGH!

I tried the first trick to get through, dialing the 6-7-1 real fast but it didn't work for me. Then I tried the 213-477-1405...It gives you the option to call back or continue holding for an operator. After pressing "0" a couple of times sure enough I got an operator on the line. She actually caught me off guard because I was so surprised to get a live voice! I let her know what I needed and she transferred me! I was talking to a representatice within a minute, if that! Awesome trick! Thank you for sharing it! I sure hope it's available atleast a little while longer.

The 213.477.1405 number does go through to EDD (at least it seems to, the initial recorded message is something like "Thank you for calling the EDD"), but no one is answering. I keep having to press zero to continue to hold for an operator. 😞

So I have been calling them for weeks now. No such luck! Today I try your approach. After a 2 hour wait on hold, I get an operator who acts like she cant hear me and then she hangs up.
I filed in the middle of October. sent in everything they asked for. Since then I have been fired on my job. And now I will be having neck surgery in two weeks. CA EDD you have caused so much stress in my life

Doesn't work for me....

(833) 978-2511 is an informational message only

so is (800) 300-5616 (even though its supposed to have real people on certain hours of the day, it's only been an informational message whenever I've called)

(213) 477-1405 is not a working number

When I used the 1 - 671, it doesn't register at all for the first number, and the second number, it hangs up the phone when I try it... merrrr

Pressed 1 for English, after the automated recording I dialed 671, confirmed my ssn and then I was told my estimated wait time to speak to a Rep was 6 minutes! It's been 31 minutes and I'm still on hold but this is as close as I have gotten to speaking to anyone! I suggest anyone to use the 300 number and quickly dial 671 :)

6-7-1 worked just now. I've been calling all week. Tried this trick and was successful the very1st attempt. You do have to listen to the new tier 4 information update, however, once I entered 6-7-1 it asked me to enter my social and said my expected wait time was 3 mins. The nicest woman I've ever spoken to answered within 2 and answered all of my questions!! Good luck to everyone as I know all too well how maddening it can to trying to reach them.

Yes, me too, i used TWO phones and was totally ready to spend ALL morning waiting but got it done in less than 20 minutes by using a combo of tricks, 213, 714 and FINALLY when tranferred to the 800 nightmare, hitting 5, 1, 1, 0. Total wait time 17 minutes.

OMG!!!! The "671" worked for me. I did have to call 8-9 times - got the "Welcome" greeting 4 times before I got through and my wait was only 3min (got through at 8:13am). What makes my situation worse is i'm a federal employee so I can only file with an EDD Rep (no online or internet filing).

Once I got through, I had to be transferred 3 times before I got to someone that handled Federal Claims. I was so afraid I would get disconnected/cut-off/hung up on...but I didn't. And to make the situation even better, everyone I spoke with was so nice especially the last gentleman that filed my claim. You-guys ROCK!!!

After 3 1/2 hours of trying to get through, I tried this trick. It did not work for me, BUT when I combined Anna and Allisa's tricks, I finally got through. After listening to the lengthy recording, I quickly dialed 5-1-1-0 and after listening to their terrible music for about 8 minutes, I actually got to speak to a real live person. Thank you so much!

I finally got through after an hour of experimenting with various tricks listed on this site. The tweak that worked for me was:
- When you call the 1800 number, you will either hear the 'Welcome...' or the 'Thank you...' message. If you hear the 'thank you' message, just hang up immediately and keep trying again till you get the 'Welcome...' message.. trust me, you WILL get it one of these times.

- Once you get the 'Welcome....' message, THEN follow the 671 trick. I tried the 5110 trick the first time and eventually got dropped after entering my SSN etc. On my 2nd try, I used 671 and got put in the queue. Was told my hold time would be 2 mins. Took about 4, but finally spoke to them and got my issue resolved !!!

Thanks for posting this online and keeping the threads alive folks !

The 909 number is not EDD.

I called this number 909-383-4663
Pressed 0 maybe 10 times. Got a operator. Gave my social and name. Transferred to an adjuster, no hold time. She was extremely nice and kind. She looked up my case and told me my claim was being handled at the Anaheim office. She gave me this number 714-687-4400 and then transferred me. It was a direct line to the operator. She said ask for an adjuster. Same process with that operator. Adjuster helped me immediately. Thank you!

Wow! Thank you so much!! I had made a mistake on my UI claim and learned that the only way to fix it was to talk to a rep, but it seemed impossible to get through with the 800 number. I tried the (909) 383-4663 trick and only had to press 0 a couple of times before a very nice operator answered. She first said I would need to use the 800 number, but once I politely told her my issue she put me through to someone who helped me right away. That rep was incredibly nice and helpful too. This was even a little after the 12:00pm cut off time for calls and they still helped me. So relieved!!

Thank you soooo much, this lady is super nice. Did get my ss no. told me whether my claim was open, but then explained she Couldn't help me but said she'd give me a direct line to call, which she did. On hold now. thanks again :) As of 4/3/20

DO NOT USE THIS LINE! I tried to ask a simple question because i have been on the phone since 8am trying to get through to the claim office and i have never spoken to anyone so rude and unhelpful. Woman on the phone wont listen and talks over you.

I have been calling the main line for 3 straight days, as I was trying to reopen my claim. There was a glitch in the system. Have tried every hack and number I could find. Have made hundreds of dials and hours to try and get through. Called (909) 383-4663 and got through after a four dials. An operator will ask you for your social and place you on hold. Then the adjuster will come on the line and call you by name and ask you to confirm some info. Thank you to C.C for this info and the others who claimed it worked! Going to buy a lotto ticket. Best wishes to everyone and stay safe!

i googled "tricks for getting through to california EDD" and this site came up. very helpful. it took me 68 calls in 10 minutes until i got the "welcome" intro, pushed 1 for english, waited for the prompts to finish then pressed 6-7-1 quickly. asked for my SS# and was a 3-5 minute wait. spoke to a real person. i cant thank you enough for this info. helped me save a lot of time and frustration.

Allisa's tip worked! I called the 800 number, waited for the voice prompt to press 1, the pressed 6-7-1 quickly, entered my SSN, confirmed on my iPhone that I had entered the correct numbers and pressed 1 to confirm without waiting for the voice prompt to read it back to me. I was then greeted by a message that said I was #6 in line and was given the option of having EDD call me back! It only took 11 minutes for a very pleasant and helpful Customer Service Rep named Rhonda to return my call. She was very thorough and answered all my questions. Thank you so much, Allisa, for sharing your tip! And a huge thank you to Get Through To EDD California for this website!

So hopefully this helps someone .after spending countless hrs trying to get ahold of someone and only getting through once ,(which didnt get any help from that call .)I read somewhere to use ASK EDD if unable to get through to unemployment by phone to speak to a representative.
I've sent numerous questions through ui acct and never recieved a reply or update on my claim. I used ASK EDD and submitted my question regarding backdate claim date for a reply within 24 hrs .I usually so far have gotten same day replies .I have now sent 6 questions and so far recieved 5replies and 1was sent on the weekend .it just took 2 days to get a reply.
They submitted my new claim effective date and now am waiting for a new award letter in the mail.
If you scroll to the very bottom of your ui acct it says CONTACT. Click that and scroll down a lil but until you see a blue clickable ASK EDD . then you choose from the menu and sub menus about what your wanting info for .You can only send one email a day so make sure when you're entering all your contact info it matches your ui acct bc if not you'll get a reply saying info doesn't match and that's a waste of a question , and will have to resubmit .

I applied in July and my claim effective date was from the day I applied not from when covid hit and when i lost my job . I have spent many morning trying to get through to someone but get the message to many callers and get disconnected .
The EDD ASK was worth a shot and it worked .I hope this info can help someone out bc I know how much of a headache it can be and feeling ready to lose all hope .dont give up. Keep trying !!!

FINALLY GOT THROUGH TODAY!!! 5/29/2020 @ 11:30am and 12:30pm (got disconnected so I had to try again the second time)

I have been calling since March to inquire about a disqualification on my claim. I read through almost every comment here and tried 20+ numbers that were recommended. Some numbers simply did not work anymore, and some other info were dated. I feel that it's my duty to pass this information on to all of you who are reading this right now and in the same boat that I was in. Here are the two numbers that worked (I had no luck with the EDD main line):

1. 866-401-2849: Press 1 for English, then keep pressing 2 until you hear "please make a valid entry", then press 0. After that provide your social and you will be transferred. My estimated wait time was 5 minutes but I ended up waiting for 45 minutes.

2. (833) 978-2511: Press 1 then 1 again and you will be put on hold. Otherwise, hang up and try again.

After I got connected to a rep, they were able to clear up my disqualification immediately and I have been able to certify for my weeks. I will now wait patiently for my payment.

Good luck everyone, and please don't give up! It took me this long to get through because I kept giving up after one or two tries.

SL's suggestion to "1. 866-401-2849: Press 1 for English, then keep pressing 2 until you hear "please make a valid entry", then press 0." worked for me!

"1. 866-401-2849: Press 1 for English, then keep pressing 2 until you hear "please make a valid entry", then press 0." worked for me!

7/31/2020 09:52:20 am

OH MY GOSH!!! After weeks of trying 1-800-300-5616 number (AND getting quoted a 6 minute wait at 11:40am 2 days in a row only to find they never actually answer...left my phone on hold literally all day until 6:00pm when it hung up), the 833-978-2511 number WORKED! At 9:00am, I called it a few times, pressed 1 to get English. A couple of times the memo played and then said they were too busy to take my call. But about the 3rd or 4th time, it went on to a menu and I pressed 1. It told me I would be waiting 27 minutes. 10 minutes later, a lovely woman answered and helped me out. Even though this number says it's only for tech support, she was able to help me reopen my claim which I've been trying to do for a month now online with no success.

I cannot promise everyone will get the same helpful type of person, but it sure did feel good to have a live human on the other end who seemed to sympathize with my situation. I did ask her if there were actual human beings on the end of the 18003005616 line and she said yes, but it's only a staff of about 100 people.

Hope this helps and brings luck to others who try it!

Option 6-7-1 is no longer valid. But what you can do is try to choose a different option and see if you get connected. For example, to open or reopen a claim, you have to press 1 and there is no luck there. I pressed 2 and then one of options under it randomly, and I was put on hold and got to a live person.

Yeah this has worked for me and sometimes has not. this worked for me last time at exactly 8:00am start calling the 1-800# if you hear "thank you for calling...." hang up, continue calling until you hear welcome, when it starts the Spanish announcement press 1, when it starts the next announcements quickly press 6-7-2 it will say " please wait while we transfer you....., then asks for SS# then press 1 to confirm, then gives you a wait time for the next operator. sometimes you have to repeat this. I know its a nightmare and EDD is Elm Street. But keep trying

It skips half the crap and gets me to the point of transfer to a human in half the time. I redialed 3 more times - and then I got through. Previously, I've dialed all day for 6 days and never got through. How am I supposed to look for a job when I spend DAYS trying to get my benefits?

Reply

5/14/2013 06:55:12 am

It doesn't eliminate the run around, it just cuts the call process in half so you can redial twice as many times to cycle through. It doubles your chance of being at the SS#,1 stage at the exact right time to be put in line to talk to someone.

This worked for me as well, I did have to try a few times on the Vietnamese line though as it was answered by silence the first few times. The lady that answered spoke perfect English and was able to sort out my issue within about 5 minutes. Turns out the only reason I was not receiving my benefits was due to my address being too long, and they were missing a digit of my Apt #. This is the best way to contact EDD by phone for certain!

Used this method and got through in LESS than a minute and a half...the SCARY thing is...the reason they hadnt released it was because they were "waiting to hear from me" because of a mailing issue...if I wouldve kept trying THEIR way...I would have been DEAD cause I COULDNT get through.

Hey Shawn didn't work for me either 3/2/17. But what did work for disability was to dial the 1-800-480-3287. Wait for the prerecorded lady then hit 13240. It will tell you the wait is 7-10 minutes. If it is longer than that it will tell you too many callers waiting. But this gets you there in 10 seconds WITHOUT having to enter your S.S.

You are welcome =)

Where in the world of web sites and everything else did EDD think to give out information that they were using a new system and for us to expect delays? Another attitude of theirs that we don't really exist or worth their time. I know we all like to eat and pay out bills.

The 6-7-1 method gets me to the right place, but I'm consistently getting a recording telling me the EDD offices are closed and to call back during regular business hours, Mon-Fri 8am to Noon. Problem is it's 10 am on Tuesday and I'm getting the "were closed recording...Huh? EDD is a mess... The difficulty involved in getting through to EDD to file a claim for our much needed benefits is criminal!

Okay everyone, I got through today!!!! Someone on this site suggested contacting your area state controllers office for help, I did this and was pleasantly surprised to see an email back within 24 hours. In the email they gave me this number (916) 654-9140. The guy who answered was very nice and looked up my claim and said I had to call a different office (I live in the IE, specifically Moreno Valley), he gave me this number (619) 525-4995. It took me all day to get through and will go to a busy signal randomly after having to press zero to stay on hold, I realized this office is open later than the 800 number, and got through on my first try when I called at 12:15pm, it took about 10 minutes pressing zero to stay on the line when prompted (about every 30 seconds or so) and a lady finally picked up and asked me to hold. Then I was on "actual" hold and knew I had finally made it!! She picked up again about 10-15 minutes later and asked for my social and looked up my account, she said I needed to speak with an adjuster and said that all of the adjusters were on lunch until 1:00pm and said I would need to call back, I almost lost my mind when she told me that, and she said the only other way would be to be placed on hold, which of course I chose to do, after about 50 minutes of holding she came back on the line and transferred me, and I FINALLY got to speak with someone. If I ever need to get through again I will be using this method and calling after 1:00pm. I think people call less after noon because most people assume that every phone line closes at 12:00pm but they don't. Thank you so much to this site, without it I would have never gotten as far as I did!!!

Good luck to the rest of you!

A live person picked up and said "I am trying to find someone for you. Please hold". All I need is a CLAIM FORM to fill out b/c they forgot to send it to me in the mail and due to their new rule, you cannot do "over the phone" unless you did it that way last time and when I register, it says "use paper form". Um... I need a paper form in order to fill out a paper form? When I email, they say to call the 800 #. OMG people, it's been over a month and I can't get help!

This does work and you don't have to listen to the long message.
If he says welcome, press 1 immediately. Then wait for him to begin his next sentence and press 671 then you will be on hold. Worked first time for me.

If you get the too many calls/busy message you will just be cut off at the end so hangup and redial. It's the welcome message where it works.

I was so happy to hear a human being answer on the 213 number. The lady took my social security number, then put me on hold. I have ben listening to the music now for 55minutes. I don't think she is coming back. You think? Now I am really mad.....

Well, it took about half an hour of trying and waiting on hold (after 3 hours of unsuccessfully attempting every other method known to man) but I finally got to talk to a real person. She asked for my social so she could transfer me to "my" office (Sac county) but I basically begged her not to because I had already been transferred to that office and had been disconnected 3 times. She actually stayed on the line with me until we reached somebody who she spoke to on my behalf. Thank you so much to the gal I spoke to at 213-477-1405! They looked up my information and are sending me 6 claim forms covering the time period I should have been receiving benefits. Time will tell if the forms are actually going to reach me and if they will be processed... but it is a first step at least.

UPDATE TO THIS INFORMATION
They now make you choose your language.
So, if you hear "thank you" hang up. Otherwise you will listen to a horribly long message and then it hangs up on you.
If you hear "welcome", press 1 for english then immediately press 671 and it will put you on hold. It's simple and it works providing you do it right at 8am or one minute before.

Then I got rerouted twice and the last rep asked me which number I Dialed and I lied and said I Dialed the 1800# and he helped me from there haha thanks to everyone for the help and Goodluck to the rest trying to get through.. don't give up!

I wish it was that easy. Been on the phone for almost 8 hours this week. Using 6-7-1, I got thru 43 times and hung up on 43 times because there's too many people ahead of me or the system is down. I've started at 7:59 like everybody else. This is incredibly frustrating.

I've been trying for a month, after calling the714 # it took twenty freakin minutes but compared to 3 months, I'm happy, their systems are upgrading and payments won't be released until u call, they approved my claim oct 5, it wasn't released until today, infuriating, but finally I know I'm getting it, don't waste time with 18003005616, never get through, take my advice use 714 6874400, because they won't release your debit card untilu do, I love everyone that helped me, thank you from my family and myself, after your call and release of funds, it will take 7 to10 business days to receive it, better knowing than saying to yourself, I hope 7- 10 days is accurate, but if not by 10 days, I'll call this number again, I'm upset to a point, but at lest I know

Best of luck

I pretty much gave up after 12pm calling the 800#, 213# and 909#. But I picked up my phone again around 1:30pm and dialed the 213# and hit 0 for about 3 times and a nice lady picked up (finally) after my 39758397503 attempt calls all morning. I gave her my SSN and she had advised me that San Bernadino is where my claim benefits are being processed. She then put me on hold to transfer me. I got a nice lady within 3 mins. She answered all my questions and more. I feel so much better now knowing where my status is on my claim benefits and not feeling left in the dark. Good luck everyone and Thanks again for the Tip folks!

This absolutely works!!!! I do not understand why this combination of numbers puts you through a live operator but some how it does. If your as frustrated as I was with this calling system, I highly recommend you try the trick of pressing 1 then 6 7. If you do not get through the first time it is OK. Hang up and try again until it connects you to a live operator and gives you a wait time.

I called the 916 Sacramento number. Explained that I couldn't fill out the application online due to a previous job that I had out of state. Told a very kind and helpful man that I had been trying for days to get through to the 800 number. He confirmed that the 800 number is almost impossible to get through. He then walked me through the process to find an online application that I could print and fax, and would be processed in 3-5 days. The form is found at this web address. You can fill it out on your computer and fax it the number shown on the last page. http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de1101id.pdf

Informed me that system is for some reason sending out claim forms for one week and told me if I recieve claim for one week I wil recieve one every week instead of biweekly and get paid weekly instead of by weekly, there will be no breaks in my benefits or delays. Problem is being worked on but for now this is how it is.tried 213# for half hour with no luck.tried 909# it rings and hangs up,530# worked and after 12pm I was able to talk with someone. That 6-7-1 trick WORKS. I literally JUST got off the phone with EDD and got right through after being hung up on. Just call, wait for the welcome message. You MUST select the language you want the call continued in, or you'll get hung up on. AFTER you select your preferred language, THEN hit 6-7-1 fast, and you'll be transferred right through!!! I was skeptical, but it 100% worked for me.

Thank you so much for your assistance. I've been calling them since last Wednesday - wasn't aware of the limited hours. However, once I knew the hours I began calling them at 8am straight up and still received the ever famous, "due to the number of callers ahead of you, you will have to call back at another time."

Today I tried the tip listed before yours and got a person who wasn't able to actually help me but was able to see a portion of my issue. I tried your tip and now, I'm actually on hold for an actual representative.

It would seem with the UE rate so high in California that they could assist more clients if they hired some of the people who are looking for employment so that they had extended hours and people didn't have to resort to tricking the system.

Additional tip, be genuine in your kindness toward who ever you speak with. Even at 8:30am they have the, "I'm over this sound in their voice and are rushing you off the phone."

I applied of unemployment years ago and had to do it again. Things changed. They no longer have live reps after 12PM PST. I tried to reschedule the EDD phone interview on UI Online (which is update to webcert) and it said there were no other available times. I have a phone interview for a job! EDD needs to be more flexible. If I were in the hospital or my husband was, I would be screwed. I had to reschedule the job phone interview. They suck. The phone options have changed. The only way to speak to a representative is to call the number and wait for the UI prompt and then hit 5 to speak to a live person. I they dialing back on time available because of the economy or because they think that most of the info is available online and on the process is automated they don't need to be available longer?

This worked perfectly the first time. I got through within a minute to a person who handled several aspects of claims problems, and then transferred me to tech support -- again, less than a minute wait, and that guy was friendly and helpful, and stuck with it until it was resolved. After 6 weeks of being unable to login, I now have normal access again.

Hallelujah. I tried what someone else suggested and talked to someone from Disability today after trying multiple times! THANK YOU to that person for sharing!!! I called the dreaded main disability number 1-800-480-3287. Then so as follows: As soon as you hear the recording hit "1". Then at the next recording hit "1" again. Then you'll hear about 5 minutes of recording. Then you will be prompted for your Social Security #. Then you will be prompted for your PIN. At the next recording hit "0". Then I got a recording "Wait time is 7-10 minutes". And I listened to music for about 25 minutes and THEN TALKED TO SOMEONE IN DISABILITY! It works if you stick with it! I called around 8:45 am on a Tuesday. I tried these steps previously and they didn't work and I kept getting the "We're sorry the max number of callers has been reached." But KEPT TRYING THIS AND IT WORKED TODAY!

For those of you filing for Paid Family Leave, either taking care of a disabled number, or bonding with a new child, the main EDD line will not help you. This is the number to call for SDI Paid Family Leave.

877-238-4373

For live person, listen for message, then press 1-3-1-3-0

The representative I got, Robert, was one of the most helpful customer service people I've ever talked to. He was apologetic that my claim was not processed sooner and overly helpful. Over the phone he authorized my entire six weeks of payment and even gave me the phone number for Bank of America EDD department, suggesting that I call them to make sure that my debit card would be sent out in a timely manner (they have been experiencing issues with people not receiving their debit cards). What a great human being! I have renewed faith in humanity :)

Tried both the 6-7-1 method (but in all but one attempt had to pres #3 after the 6-7-1) and the 213 #. In both cases I would get to the queue, then was told there were too many people on hold and was disconnected.

At the last minute, I tried the 213 # again and someone answered!! She was pleasant and looked up my claim, then transferred me to another department who told me she can't help me and transferred me back to the 800 # - but the time I got to the queue, it was 12:01pm and the offices were closed.

To those getting through, you're lucky - I will try again tomorrow at 7:59am!

3/2/17
I wrote this in response to someone but didn't notice his post was from 2013, so hope this helps others.

The 6-7-1 didn't work for me either 3/2/17, just kept hanging up on me. What DID WORk for disability was to dial the 1-800-480-3287. Wait for the prerecorded lady then hit 1-3-2-4-0. It will tell you the wait is 7-10 minutes. If it is longer than that it will tell you too many callers waiting. But this gets you there in 10 seconds WITHOUT having to enter your S.S. So if there are too many callers you can hopefully jump in line relatively quickly.

You are welcome =)

THIS NO LONGER WORKS! THEY SAY THEY'LL TRANSFER YOU TO THE NEXT REP BUT NOW IT *ALWAYS* SAYS IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS "DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF CALLERS WAITING TO SPEAK TO A REP WE CANNOT TAKE YOUR CALL AT THIS TIME. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER" & HANG UP ON YOU. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I CALLED EVERY 5 MINUTES FOR OVER AN HOUR JUST TO TEST THIS THEORY & IT HAPPENED EVERY TIME. YOU CANNOT REACH A PERSON ANYMORE AT THE 1-800-300-5616 NUMBER. THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP YOU REACH A PERSON ANYMORE ARE YOUR LOCAL EMPLOYMENT OFFICE REPS BUT YOU HAVE TO GO DOWN TO THEIR OFFICE.

As of 2017 many things have changed. The 1-800-300-5616 is NOW the ONLY #, most of the 213#s have been disconnected! But most importantly, the have REDUCED their hours to 8-12pm pacific time. Absolutely ridiculous...

Update: Called the 213# and reached a person, she informed me that indeed the other numbers have been disconnected, the remaining 213# (1405) are only for unemployment and they will simply forward you to the main 1-800-480-3287, i don't know any tricks for that #, every time i try it says 'thank you' even though they say the hours are 8-5 ( its 1:30 right now!!!!!). The other line, 1-800-300-5616, i was informed is simply a call center (wtvr that means) and they are only open till 12, but does still work when you do the 1-6-7-1 trick. I will have to try it before 12 and see if you can really reach a person. If anyone has any additional advice/information on how to reach a person in 2017 it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you for all the follow ups. So for Disability, there are 2 numbers you can try. The faster one is 1-800-300-5616 with the 1-6-7-1 trick open from 8-12 and will work most every time. Just be sure to call well before 12 or the amount of callers waiting makes the system hang up on you.
If you still have not reached someone after 12 then go for the main 1-800-480-3287 with the 1-2-3-0 trick, you will likely experience a wait though.

As of 2018, none of those little tricks work at all. They totally fixed all the glitches with the phone system that allowed for you to speed past other callers. Quickest way for disability is through the 1800 #, then selecting online sdi questions (I think it’s 2), then pressing 2, then 0 to get the operator. I’m going to try this early tomorrow morning, too many callers in the afternoon for his to work.

The only # for disability is the main line, 800-480-3287. But, if the recording answers and says, "Thank you for calling..." it will eventually hang up on you. You'll only get further if you hear, "Welcome to..."

What worked this time was calling 213-477-1405 first (EDD only #), pushing 0 a bunch of times, and having her transfer me to that main disability 800-487-3287 line where I got the "Welcome..." right away. Perhaps they're able to transfer right into the queue, whereas I called directly like 50 times this morning and never got through?

Such a pain for us all.

This doesn't work for PFL. They can't transfer you to anything but the 1877 238 4373 #. Try that and go through the prompts over and over and you may eventually get put on hold, at least!

This is what worked for me on a Monday morning.

Called 1-800-300-5616

The moment he says "Welcome.." press 1

Wait until the 2nd male voice finishes spelling out the contact info and the 1st voice begins speaking again and enter 6 7 3

And then you'll be prompted for your SS# and then you'll now be in line for "next available representative"

File or re-open a claim online... You need the unemployment customer ID #. Not your SSN, not your phone number.. a rando number.. they MAIL to you. If you lose it <raises hand> you can't do anything online. You have to call them, does anyone else see the circular logic here?

Anyways, yes, use the local office number, or the 800 number and 1 wait for remainder of banal message, then 6 pause 7 pause 1, and expected hold time is 5 minutes.. YAY! Thank you guys.

While trying to get through to a live representative for 1 hour I decided to apply online for Unemployment Benefits. When I finished registering I the EDD website advised me to wait for an email confirmation. At the same time I was calling EDD CA. I kept getting the same high volume message. No confirmation email was received. Then I searched online for a short cut to get a live rep over the phone. I followed Allisa's instructions exactly. Bingo! Got a live rep who helped me minutes before the call center closed. The rep even helped me out after hours. The 671 trick works!

For SDI
Call the 1-800-480-3287 number ; enter 1 then after a second , hit 1 again , then wait a second , then 1 again , then SS#, then 1 then 0 and 0 again. ( 1-1-1-SS#-1-0-0) ( brief pauses between each number entered) Chances are they will say " we're sorry, all reps are busy..." but hang up and try again, until you get through. At least you don't have to hear any long automated instructions or messages this way.

As of 12/5/19, the 213-477-1405 says "you have reached an invalid #...." and I tried several times. To clarify, from my experience, what the 1-6-7-1 number does is eliminate all the other painful messages and prompts you have to go through to get to the point where you enter your ss#. That saves a tremendous amount of time! Before this tip, just to get to the point it asks for a SS# took 3 - 5 minutes. If you dont push the 6-7-1, you WILL HAVE TO listen to all the dreadful messages... you cannot push any other selection to get to the next segment UNTIL they say to make a selection, or stop talking... the 6-7-1 makes the process definitely a lot less painful. You may still encounter the "due to the number of people...." but its ALOT quicker to go through the process. Based on my experience, this does not however eliminate the terminal hold time. Horrible, painful process. Good luck all!

I am having the same issue as you Weilly 1. I've been trying to reach theses SOBs for about 3 hours. It takes about 5-10 minutes to get to the place where they tell you to enter your SSN and when you do, it says you will be transferred and then hangs up.

I've tried to contact them using various different reasons and options on the menus, but they all lead to the same thing - a "transfer" to get hung up on. Rude.

When you call the 1800 number, you will either hear the 'Welcome...' or the 'Thank you...' message. If you hear the 'thank you' message, just hang up immediately and keep trying again till you get the 'Welcome...' message. Trust me...you WILL get it one of these times.

Anyway, once you get the 'Welcome....' message, THEN follow the 671 trick. I used 671 and got put in the queue right away (after entering my SSN). Was told my hold time would be 2 mins. Took about 5, but I finally spoke to a person and got my issue resolved !!!

Hi Sweetie,
Sorry to hear about the struggle. I am waking up at 8 am in order to see if I am lucky enough to get someone to help and I've tried to reach them for about 3 hours a day since last week. There is no way to check the case unless you have your UL claim number or something. I do not have it because so far no one has sent me any mail, email nor I have received any phone calls. I've tried to re-submit my application but it kicked me out saying that I've already have submitted.
I will just let it be for couple of days and see if I am lucky to receive a mail with more information or so. I've been laid of from my work where I have been working for 2 years, never been on any assistance and now when I really struggle and I have family to take care of this whole c$%^p is down. They should hire more people, by providing more jobs and also it will help people like us to finally get someone on the phone.
Good luck, keep me posted !

Hello Alina,
So I was in the same boat as you. It was so frustrating that I almost gave up. But like most of us here, we have either lost our jobs or our hours have been cut due to COVID-19. I called tech support at 855-327-7058 and was transferred to a real nice lady who helped me and explained everything to me in great detail.
She told me that if I have applied for disability in the past ( due to maternity leave) that my EDD customer account number is the same. This EDD customer account number is what you need to fully finish submitting your claim and setup your UI online account.

Anyway, I logged in to EDD using the same email i used when I applied for maternity leave ... but this time I clicked on SDI online instead of UI online. Then I clicked on profile. If you have received disability insurance benefits you should see your customer account number on there.
Once you have written this account number down, go back to the main page but this time click on UI online.
Should send you to a page that asks whether you want to submit a new claim or view/register a claim. Click on register view/register a claim. Put in all your information exactly as when you applied for unemployment and at the very bottom itll ask you to enter your customer account number. Click submit and you should be able to view your application and certify for benefits. I hope this helps someone.
It took me over two weeks and I was ready to just quit.

Now I am calling 714-687-4400 because I was denied benefits. Got a live person and now I am waiting.
Dont call the 800-300-5616 number as no one will answer and its just an automated message.

ALSO, when you are certifying for benefits, DO NOT answer NO to question number 3...."Did you look for work". You must answer yes otherwise you WILL get denied. The representative I spoke with told me that under these circumstances, its ok to answer YES if you lost or got your hours reduced due to COVID.

Please keep me posted. Hopefully this helps.
Yuvi

I tried the 800 480 3287 with the 3210 trick today and says the offices are closed and to call back between 8-12 (I’ve been trying since 8 on the dot and it’s now 8:45). Yesterday when I did this later in the day, it said that the maximum number of callers are in line and to try back later.

I then tried the 800 300 5616 welcome trick and was about to be put in line but then told thst the maximum number of people are in line (around 8:40 between the other calls above).

This is so frustrating. It says to send an email but once it’s sent, it lets you know that it will take 5-10 business days.

I received my paperwork but I have since been laid off instead of the reduced hours which I was in when filing the claim. It says I need to make this change within 10 days of mailing date (3/24).

Try calling 714-687-4400. This office is in Anaheim, Ca.
I got a live person when I called this morning and she was able to help me.

Ryan, thats weird. I called that number like at 3pm today and spoke to a representative. Was on hold for about 20 minutes and then I got a rep who took about 5 minutes to fix my application and get me approved. Yes, please try tomorrow morning and hopefully you are able to get it resolved.

Hello,

I am having a hell of a time attempting to reach these incompetent people.

1.) About 45 call attempts to actually get to the automated portion.

2.) Answer all questions until asked for SS number.

3.) Place SS number and verify it is accurate.

4.) A long pause......

5.) "Our system is unable to take your call. Good bye."

I tried the 671 trick after pressing 1 for the language. Same result.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep. I’ve been calling 200-300 times a day starting at 8am. I’ll get the “thank you...” msg 49/50 calls . And even when I get the welcome message it kicks me off after I enter all my info. Insanely infuriating

Called the 714 687 4400, had me push 0 a hundred times but after 13 minutes of trying someone answered, was not able to help me with my wage adjustment for my UI claim. I was transferred to the general 1800 300-561. tried the welocm .. thank you trick and entered the 671 got to the SSN portion of it waited a minute for a response. Said " System is unavailable please try again later" this is after 2 hours of trying everything. The 5-7 days email is looking better then this.

I’ve called about 300 times and have had no luck on speaking to a rep!! This is ridiculous. I’ve started calling as soon as they open at 8am and have not stopped till they close. I’ve tried multiple numbers and the tricks people have put on here but nothing works :( they get my social and say they’ll connect me with someone then hang up.

The 6-7-1 trick worked for me today! The first few times I was told the line was too busy after pressing 6-7-1 and entering my SSN#, but after a few tries they put me on hold. I Was given a wait time of 2 mins. I ended up waiting about 10-15 and had all my questions answered by a very lovely lady!

So is it 1 (for english), then 6-7-1?

Was it 6(pause)7(pause)1?

Can you give specifics please?

Press 1 for English.
Wait for him to start speaking then press 6, wait again and press 7 once he starts talking again and then press 1. Just saves time and you dont have to listen to the long boring message.

Well, I'm glad those who got assistance through the 714-687-4400 number did so because like others have mentioned today they won't do anything :( I got through about 8:20am today, guy put me on hold, when he returned he asked for my social then said he couldn't help and dumped me into the general 800 number which we all know is lottery odds to get to a person. After hundreds of more attempts at 714-687-4400 I got through to a female who said she was in the overpayment department and couldn't (more likely wouldn't) do anything for me. I'm beyond pissed at this point. Good luck to everyone going forward...

I found this thread a few days ago, and I have tried all the numbers posted here... none worked. Its been two weeks and I have not been able to get through to an actual person. I sent a question through UI online and got a response. You are better off going online and sending a message through the "Contact us" link. its says it takes 5 to 7 business days to get a reply, but I got a reply in two days.

When you get a representative at the 714-687-4400 number that is willing to help, then you will get your answers. If you get a rep that doesnt give a s*** then you wont get anything accomplished.
The representatives at this number are capable of transferring your call to a rep over at the 800-300-5616 office quickly if they REALLY wanted to help.

I spoke to a wonderful lady yesterday who transferred my call to the 800-300-5616 and actually waited until she got someone on the line before transferring me. I literally almost cried when she did this for me. These are the employees that care. All I can say is keep trying.

These are the numbers that I have:
If you need tech support and are unable to completely setup your account call 855-327-7058.
To change the DOB or a mistake that was entered in a claim, I was given 866-401-2849....option 1-1-0.
I also tried 800-480-3287- But had no luck with that number.

If you call the main number, you have to hang up and callback, hang up and callback until you hear a "Welcome". Then press 1 for English. It might take 30 tries but I have had luck with this trick.

Hello Ryan,
Yes I have been calling non-stop because I not only applied for myself but for my husband as well. I got someone both times on the 6th.
I tried calling again yesterday the 7th (for my sister this time) but I didnt have luck getting through this time.
I did find another number online this morning and my sister got someone after 2 rings. 714-736-3000 is the number we called.

We explained to the rep what was going on and how its extremely hard getting through the main number. She said, ok hold on, let me get someone on the line for you. 10 minutes later my sister was speaking to another rep who helped her..

DO NOT let them just transfer you. Have them call first. Chances are the main guys up there will answer a call if its coming from an internal number vs if you call from an outside number.
Hope this helps.

Yuvi

Hi Yuvi,

I went ahead and called the 714-736-3000 number. I got ahold of someone within a few minutes. However she stated that the number was just for interviews. She went ahead to try and connect me with an agent but of course they were all busy. She said she would give an agent my call back number and they would call back before the end of the day. Now let’s wait and see how true this is.

First of all, thank you so much for posting the 714-736-3000 number. After trying the 800 number for 2 weeks straight and getting automated messages time and time again, I was losing hope that I was ever going to get help.

I called the 714 number above and got an answer after 2 rings and was transfered to someone that helped me. I applied for unemployment at the end of February and was so frustrated that I could not get a hold of anybody to help me.

Thank you!

I got through this morning. Called the 1-800 number and did the 1-6-7-1method. Took about 20 minutes if trying to get through then entering my social then being cut off then trying again but I did manage to get through. Was on hold for about 40 minutes then spoke to someone who resolved my issues and answered my questions. Started calling right at 8am. Keep trying eventually you will get through.

Another day of trying several numbers with no luck... what baffles me is that with the increase of incoming calls, EDD continues to work a 4 hour day and doesn't consider going to an 8 hour day (and 6 day work week) to help with the workload. Idiots.

This is an inaccurate statement. The 800# is built to only function from 8-12, which they have extended to 12:30. The system is not made for the hundreds of thousands of claims being processed.

The employees are actually working from 6am-8pm M-Sat and 6am-5:30pm on Sundays. 90,000 claims are being processed daily so keeping that in mind the number of claims at the end of the week that have been filed is well close to 450,000.

The system is not set up for this type of crises so it is creating flags when claim forms are submitted. Employees have to change and correct each form manually in the system.

A lot of staff is now on emergency telework and working from home. Not everyone is allowed this safety or even given the option to work from home. Some have to leave their kids and family to work in a building with no hazard pay and given little information on the promises given by the governor.

Maybe the frustration should be voiced to the governor that gives many promises and little resources.

I called 714-687-4400 and was placed on hold, after about a minute or two an automated recording of of a woman states a generic "We have many calls, blah blah and if you want to continue holding please press zero". After pressing zero about 6 times I got a live person and explained by situation. The woman was nice however said that they only deal with over payments and she transferred me to the main 800 number and got the dreaded "Thank you" message.

I called the 1-800-300-5616 and got the "Thank you for calling" message multiple times. I would hang up as soon as I heard it. Once I heard the "Welcome" message I pressed 1 (for English) and then pressed 6-7-1 while waiting a few seconds in between pressing the numbers. Sometimes I was interrupted by a message from a woman who states a COVID-19 message however it gets you back on track afterwards.

After pressing 6-7-1 I would get a message asking for my SSN, i would enter it and then it would repeat back to me and have my confirm by pressing 1. Sometimes there were long awkward silences. Once this is complete you will get one of the following two messages;
"We're sorry, the system is currently unavailable, goodbye." and then you are disconnected.
"Your call is being transferred", if you get this message you on the way to a live person! Unfortunately for me I got this message at 11:58am and after being in queue for 3 minutes I got a message stating that the office is closed and to try back during working hours. They close at 12pm.

It was disappointing however I didn't get upset, I will try again tomorrow. I highly recommend putting on background music and enjoying a nice cup of coffee while you call.

Make sure you get the message that opens with "Welcome", and not "Thank you". "Thank you" means call back again and no matter what number you press will hang up.

I called the 714-687-4400 and pressed 0 several times. I was able to get right through to a live human who ended up not being able to help me as she was just appeals and something else. I tried to smooth talk in order to get a transfer to an actual agent but she could only transfer me back to the main line where once again I was hung up on. I worked in two states and initially in order to file on line didn't make a reference to working in Louisiana most of last year. So that has screwed up my maximum benefit. I didn't fall under appeals because I wasn't disqualified, I just need an adjustment. So I need to speak to a claims specialist. And here we are not getting through and not getting paid as well. If anyone gets a new number, post it on here!

Hey guys, I just wanna let you know this post has really helped me and my husband. Like all of you i have been going in circles for days with these number combos. Today this worked for both Him and I. Dial ‭(866) 401-2849‬ press 1 for english. Wait for him to say the speal. Press 1 again than another speal than he will say press 0 for an operator. Than theres a slight pause and he asks for the social number. You have to call between 8-12. When I tried I got right through first call. Wait time 5 mins. I had an extremely rude lady who did not want to help. But I have learned that if this is your first time applying for unemployment the process is longer. She told me it takes 10-15 days after they receive the verification documents to be approved or denied. The documents are your social and license or whatever you sent. When my husband called both him and I tried back to back for hours he finally got through. They told him that he is on day number 3 out of the 10-15 days to wait approval. He filed on march 15th and sent verification on the 27th of march (the same day he received the letter in the mail asking for verification) if this helps to put things in perspective.

I wanted to share that I FINALLY reached someone today. I used the 714-687-4400 and got someone after about 5 minutes who redirected me.
My issue was that my wages said $0 and my benefits were stated as $0. It turns out that is often an issue of identification verification, as it was in my case. I just received a letter in the mail TODAY asking for two more forms of ID to verify my claim. For reference, the letter is dated the day of my claim - 3/15/2020, and was sent two days ago 4/6/2020. That gives you an idea of how slowly these things are being processed. Good luck to everyone!

I didn’t even get a certify notification as well , Why is that? I’ve also been trying to get a hold of customer service, it just always hangs up.

Ron,
Do you remember if you answered "Yes" or "No" to question "Have you been searching for a job?"

I helped my sister apply for unemployment and when it came time for her to certify for benefits I did it for her online since its quicker and well, I answered "No" to above question and she became disqualified for benefits. We called to find out why and EDD rep said that everyone affected by the pandemic must answer yes in order to get their benefits. If you answer no you automatically become disqualified for those weeks and must wait until next certification period to recertify. Now she has to dispute it to get paid for the first 2 weeks.
Hope this helps.
